Why are Republicans pushing Tax Credits for Health Insurance?
First off I work at a job that does not offer insurance....AT ALL. Why do they not understand that if someone is having to pay $300-$500 a month for decent coverage. doesn't have it because they can't afford it to begin with. How does a tax credit help that??? If I am not able to pay the monthly price right now that covers me nearly 100%, then what is the point of the tax credit because I would not be able to use it because I would not have been able to pay the plan each month. Are they just that out of touch with the working American people(People who work at jobs where insurances are not offered or just don't make enough to afford insurance and make too much to be qualified for medicaid)? My kids use services through Medicaid and SCHIP and when they go to the doctor, we are in and out, no paperwork and it is all taken care of, simple and sweet, no real big costs out of pocket, except $5 for SCHIP doctor visits. When I used to have insurance through a prior company, I had to fill out paperwork to show that I was serviced, stuff wasn't covered 100%, I had high deductibles, basically I didn't want a problem to happen or it could end up costing me hundreds of dollars....that is not right as it can cause a major problem for someone NOT rich. People are bankrupting medical bills because they just can't afford them. I still have collection companies trying to get money for services that were not covered by my prior insurance. I'm not trying to make this political, I just want insurance that is affordable and covers nearly 100% for services needed with little or no deductible. Don't give answers, like find a different job because that is not possible. This is according to their NEW recent plan they submitted that can be viewed here: http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/06/17/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5093897.shtml Ok it is apparent nobody gets my question because they keep saying that the tax credit can be used to pay for the insurance..... I would have to have been paying on the insurance a month to be able to get that so that WOULD NOT work for people like me. Please think this through....the tax credit would not be enough to pay for my insurance. Why can't we just expand medicaid to cover more as that works perfectly fine? Again....these latest answers are not what I am asking. Let me reiterate, I am unable to to get another job because the market and the area I am in. My job does not offer insurance and I am not an illegal alien, I am a regular American trying to be able to afford health care like millions of other Americans. I think most the people answering have insurance or make more than $100K a yr because your answer don't make sense if you were someone like me. As far as free clinics, great the closest one is about 100 miles or so away, so that really is not convenient for me or my family. You guys are missing my point and my question which really leads me to believe you are all in favor of no health care and just want to keep at the same pace we are at with comments like "who cares, it is not affecting me....blah blah blah" Seriously, is there any body with a truly good answer to this as we are the ONLY country in the western world without some sort of universal health care for all.

- Because they want a piece of the action, like the Dems who want to socialize it.
- If you get a tax credit you can use that money to buy health insurance. When you get your refund then you use it to buy health insurance. It's really not that difficult.
- For starters, because the 0bama and the Axis of Idiots plan will dump two trillion of costs onto an economy that is $12 trillion in debt....
- The tax credits will allow you to buy health insurance. If its socialized then way more money will be deducted from your paycheck and you will end up paying 300-500 a month anyway... AND you will be getting crappy health care...
- Because it's smarter than socializing it. If the government offers health care then businesses will quit offering it to their employees and insurance companies will stop selling it thus raising the cost of government health care even more.
- Unless you make about 15,000 a year or less, you will pay higher state and federal taxes under the dems plan. Count on it. So, you'll pay double your taxes per month and get DMV style health coverage. As for me, keep my taxes low, let me buy my insurance I want, and keep your hands out of my wallet. PS (The reason dems don't like tax credits to cover insurance costs is because you have to PAY TAXES to get tax credits, so half their voter base would not benefit from tax credits.) PSS Medicaid and Medicare are already so poorly run they are running out of money. And you want to expand it even more. It must be nice to have taxpayers cover your health for you. Problem is, it can't work like that for all of us. But I guess those of us with decent jobs should be forced to carry you, huh?
- What I really want to know is what is a liberals definition of an American and why does it seem that this bill is just pandering to 12 million+ illegal immigrants and not covering the legal immigrants the same way? Why does every liberal dope think this will be free?
- You use the credit to buy the insurance.
- because democrats want to tax it as income! that isn't right either, your point of the high cost is a valid consideration, however mandatory coverage will only enrich insurance executives, that is why this issue needs to take time to work out bugs and not be rushed through, do we have a right to health care, no, in my view, unless you served in the armed forces as it is a benefit of being a vet. no where does it say it is a right in the constitution, now you chose to work where you work, and it cost an employer a lot of money to pay for it, if its worth the money buy it, if not figure out what you will do if you need it, we already have charity hospitals and clinics in every major city.
- Well if you did a bit more research, you would find that what was proposed was the Tax credit was applied at the time you get paid not when you file your tax returns. Gross pay less Heatlh tax credit The money would have gone dirrectly into your pocket and it would have been your choice wheter to acquire healthcare insurance. Don't believee just because you read it or saw something on the news, that they actaully provided you with all the facts. Welcome to the modern world of misleading news.
- Because they seem to be unaware of just how much a problem health coverage is for most Americans. It is a shame they seem to lie about the plans Obama has to change things. First of all, Obama wants to make insurance more available to all. And change the system so that it is cheaper, and also so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Holland and Switzerland where private companies are involved in providing insurance. Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
