Would dividing insurance up help?

Why not have a Perscription insurance, a minor medical insurance, and a major medical insurance. It would add jobs, and force competion amongst the insurance companies. Your thoughts? Tort reform would help.

  1. There's no competition there, all you're doing is creating separate divisions that will be led by the same people and will have the same price gouging and 8% per year inflation.
  2. I have that type of insurance now, where have you been?
  3. Those things are already out there.
  4. It would be better to have NO insurance for things other than serious conditions. If people had to pay out of pocket they would be much more likely to avoid unnecessary/overpriced procedures and tests. Tort reform would also help.
  5. That's not a simple answer, but getting government involved is the wrong answer. They were the ones that were supposed to oversee what they call "Corruption". Now its coming to light who the corrupt ones are.
  6. Typically that is what "insurance" providers do. But let's not call Prescription repayment "insurance" --- I should be able to buy birth control pills OTC without the overhead of a third party payer. Let pharmacies compete in the open market for routine pharmaceuticals. Insurance is the sharing of risk --- To have A pay for drugs that A would never use is a form of theft or subsidy. To have a person who eats candy all day and does not brush his teeth pay the same dental rates as the daughter of a Dentist who floss daily, is also unfair. Akin to have a save drive pay the rates of someone who has had 4 DUI's with property damage. Major medical can be underwritten to share the risk and expense with a pool of like behaving buyers. Minor medical (i.e basic medical visits and shots) should be paid out of pocket or a tax free medical savings account. The expense of thrid party pay system rewards bad lifestyles.
  7. Something must be done for sure. That's not a bad idea.
