  1. ~~Every state has different laws affecting insurance premiums. If you want a decent insurance look at blue shield, which has a variety of plans. The higher the deductible the better the premium is. You will still get the contracted rate for providers accepting Blue Shield, and most everyone does. Sometimes their contracted rate is less than a higher premium insurance's copay. My husband and son have a high deductible ($4,000.00 annually) but we put the money in an HSA account for the deductible so we get a write of on taxes plus earn interest on the money in the HSA. You can add to it every year. To see a specialist under their plans, is only $35.00. This is because of the great negotiated rate. All insurance premiums are increasing. Until President Obama gets an insurance reform through, this is the best we can do. My husband, age 53 pays $232 a month and my son 26 pays $56 a month. We live in California. Talk with a Blue shield agent in your area and they can explain all the different options and help you through enrollment. If you live in CA, OR, HI, WA, or NV, email me through Y/A and I'll give you the name of out agent. Best of luck!~~
  2. Common situation you met like many other people,be patient, and check the resource here http://www.insuranceidea.info/free-insurance.htm i found useful.
  3. Suggest going to: www.eHealthInsurance.com Enter your zip code plus your age and your sons and you will find options in your area. For someone who is healthy suggest looking at a health savings account and from a company that includes, at no cost to you, all preventive care allowed by the IRS. Good luck
  4. Well, EVERYONE keeps getting their prices jacked up, because, well, claims keep going up! There isn't any 'surcharge' for claims - when ALL the 40 year old men in your state, on average, put in more claims, then EVERYONE in that age range, will see an increase. Affordable is in the eye of the beholder. A GOOD low/no deductible family plan, is GOING to cost $1200 to $1500 a month. That's what it costs. To lower the cost, you need to lower your coverage, or raise your deductiblel, or both. But that means more out of pocket, for you, for claims. You probably should sit down with a local agent, to have them help you balance coverages and costs to find something you can afford.
  5. It depends on where you live. Aetna is good, but they're not the most competitive everywhere. That's why a good broker is nice to have as a resource so they can help you know whether you have the right plan. I give you credit for getting the coverage on your own, because I can't tell you how many people just pay out thousands of dollars per year needlessly by just accepting the coverage at work.
