Pregnant with no health insurance?

I am pregnant and make too much $ to qualify for medicaid. I haven't been able to find any insurance that does not require a 12 month waiting period. Any ideas ?? I just signed up for the Cinergy Health plan and I am now having second thoughts about that program ? PLEASE HELP, does anyone know of any insurance that does not have a waiting period

  1. Have you tried applying for the pregnancy Medicaid? The requirements are different from regular Medicaid. I don't know of any private insurance that will kick in right away knowing you are pregnant.
  2. Most, if not all, insurance companies will require a waiting period of one year for pre-existing conditions. You may be able to find some assistance through your township offices, Catholic Charities, or even a local pregnancy assistance program. At the very least, you will be able to negotiate a lower fee with the doctor and the hospital - they will often give uninsured patients the same discount you would receive if you had insurance - you just need to ask and let them know you are having financial difficulties. There may also be a clinic in your area offering low cost care for pregnancies. Good luck and I hope all goes well for you and the new baby :)
  3. There are no insurance policies you can purchase yourself that will cover your pregnancy without a waiting period. If a woman gets pregnant while she has no insurance, she has 3 options... 1) Become eligible for group coverage through an employer (get a new job that comes with maternity benefits, get married to someone who has group insurance benefits w/maternity, etc.) 2) Qualify for Medicaid 3) Save money and pay for the birth out of pocket. Maternity discount or limited benefit programs are a waste of money. You could negotiate the same payment plans yourself with the hospital and your medical providers. You're better off saving the money and putting it directly towards your medical bills, rather than going with one of those plans.
  4. Try a state program or state high risk pool. You'd be covered in my state. But, insurance is for unexpected illness and injuries. They can't turn a profit with a known expense like a childbirth so no insurance company would want to pay for it.
