Has anyone out there had the radioactive pill and body scan to destroy thyroid?

I have been diagnosed with graves disease related to my thyroid. My endocrynologist wants me to take a radioactive pill and body scan to destroy my thyroid next week. He will then have me on thyroid medicine the rest of my life with periodic blood tests. Has anyone out there experienced this procedure? If so, please discuss it with me.

1. Not personally but my mom had the same thing done and now her cancer is completely gone.
2. Hi. I am going through the same thing right now and go to the endo on Monday. I am also in another yahoo group called thyroidless. Check it out. All of the people there have begged me not to remove my thyroid. They have all had problems for many years following the RAI treatment. Get some more answers before you have it removed. I am hoping that I can just regulate myself with pills for the rest of my life. Do you sleep at all? I don't anymore. Diana
