Humana is setting a $7500.00 deductible on my health insurance, is that normal?

Payment is $240 a month for 2 adults

  1. That sounds like what is called a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). It is usually coupled with a Health Savings Account (HSA).
  2. Yes, that's normal. $240 a month for 2 adults is a fairly low monthly premium payment, especially if either of you have any medical conditions. The lower the premium, the higher the deductible. If you want a plan with a lower deductible, then you'll also have to take on a higher monthly premium payment. Would I personally purchase a policy with a $7,500 deductible? Maybe...but only if I had a Health Savings Account to go along with it.
  3. The higher the deductible the lower the monthly premium. As long as you are comfortable with the monthly premium amount and you feel that you could come up with the $7,500 to meet the deductible if something major ever happened then you should be in good shape. Your plan is probably a High Deductible Health Insurance Plan (HDHP) and eligible for combination with a Health Savings Account (HSA).
