what does tricare cover?

i have tricare standard now. should i still keep my other insurance from aetna? how much is tricare gonna pay off for medical visits? do i ever get a tricare handbook? thanks!

1. tricare is the devil. i work in scheduling at a pediatric office and i don't know if i hate them or healthease/medicaid more. if aetna is an option, i'd say go with them!!!
2. call tricare witha list of the meds that you are on. they should tell you what they do and do not cover, that way if you have secondary insurance what they dont cover will go through that. I would sincely advise you to keep both if you can.
3. why did you choose tricare standard/? tricare prime is much better... if you havent recieved a booklet, call tricare, or go to the nearest tricare svc center.
4. I have tri-care prime. I do get free health care but not the best. The paperwork is a pain and it can take 8 months for a referral. If you go on base and you have a ovary problem don't expect them to know what to do or be able to order that type of meds (personal experience) Here is the website below.
5. We have tri care prime and I go to the MTF here on post, I havent had any problems with referalls, I usually get them back in about a week. I just wish the dental was better , I hate united concordia

I've been on tricare standard and when it comes to medical visits just make sure if you are seeing a civilian doctor, which I did, that they accept tricare and they should pay for most of your visit. I had to pay like 10 dollars everytime i went to the doctor. As far as perscriptions go at a civilian pharmacy you pay a $3 or $9 dollar co-pay for any medication. If you go to a post hospital to be seen you shouldnt have to pay for anything. But if you have the choice of going on tricare prime, Im not sure what your sponsor is, definitly go with prime. I dropped my other insurance when i married my husband and it was a good thing because tricare wouldn't pick things up because of the insurance i had through my job. Tricare also pays for routine visits to the eye doctor. I was very surprised when they covered the cost of my exam with my civilian eye doctor.
8. Tricare is always a second payer if you have two insurance policies. What that means is the doctor will bill Aetna first and then Tricare for anything Aetna didn't pay. You really want to get the Tricare benefits book and make a comparison of the two if you have any insurance concerns. I'm like some of your repliers and have Prime and have had no problems. I have friends with other medical concerns that are the same and satisfied. I also have friends who are not satisfied. We all only know the details of the network in our little sphere of concerns and they may not overlap your concerns.
