Questions about braces. & Insurance!?!? please answer (:?
Okay, I'm about to be 14 & I live in Ohio(No idea if that's needed?). But anyways, my parents have Aetna Insurance & I do believe dental is included. I have not so good of teeth... ha ha, so I was wondering 1. If anyone knew how much the insurance would pay for braces? 2. I need fillings(2 cavities) Do I have to have the fillings put in first before I can get braces? &3. How bad does it REALLY hurt, spacers, the braces, ect ect. & any tips on how to make it subside? THANKS SO MUCH!! OH & 4. How much is the down payment on braces, that you HAVE TO PAY UPFRONT?

- ok. so heres the deal. i had Healthy Kids Insurance (its some florida citizen insurance) and its really good, but i did not cover braces AT ALL, because its something cosmetic. lets face it, if you dont get braces... you'll still live. but it did fully cover cavities, so yours probably will too. my braces didnt hurt at all, but my teeth were pretty straight. the spacers are uncomfortable, but fun to play with. rubber bands come later, and those hurt a bit. but trust me, everything is worth it, cause once they take them off, you will be nothing but smiles. ... except your teeth will feel really mushy. i dont know why.
- you do prob need to get the cavity taken care of first. Insurance does not pay for braces...... cost is about 4000-7000$ out of your parents pocket. it hurts but it's worth the nice teeth.
- I can only answer part of your questions but I will try to help you out. It will depend on what your insurance covers as to what you will have to pay and what they pay. It costs about $5000 for the whole process without insurance but I can not tell you for sure what your insurance will pay. More than likely they will do your fillings before putting the braces on. It would be easier to do it first. I have never had braces so the only thing I can tell you is what I have heard about the pain. Everyone I have talked to says that it isn't that bad. I hope I have helped you! Just remember, tons of people get braces so it couldn't be that bad. Don't panic and stress out about it, okay? Good luck!
- I only know the answer to # 3. The spacers: That's the worst part. You won't be able to eat for 3-4 days. The braces: They don't hurt. Tightened: When they get tightened, they hurt a little. Your orthodontist will give you wax, use it if you don't want cuts all over your mouth. Advil cures all.
