Is the lifetime limit of $50,000 in my Medicare supplemental insurance plan reasonable?
As a retiree, my ex-company charges me $176/mo. for Aetna Medicare Supplemental insurance. They say the limit is more than enough since medicare covers almost all of potential medical expenses.

- Your company is correct. Medicare part A and B cover 99% of bills Your supplemental will pick up the odds and ends
- for most people that would be fine. there are those who, with an unexpected illness or accident, have well exceeded that limit.
- I would ask them what it would cost to go to the next increment of lifetime limit coverage. If you or your spouse had a catastrophic illness - such as cancer or stroke - it might not be enough. Most people want at least $500,000 supplemental coverage.
