COBRA health insurance and preexisting conditions?

I live in New Jersey and have a preexisting medical condition (HIV) and currently have COBRA health insurance. I am currently unemployed. When I start a new job, will I have to use up all of my COBRA before I can enroll in my new employer's health plan because of my preexisting condition?

  1. As far as I no, no. I have bipolar disorder and I've never had a problem with the a new job's insurance troubling me with having a preexisting condition when I stopped using COBRA and enrolled in a new employer's health insurance.
  2. No. You will have to meet your new employers eligibility, and waiting requirements, just like all the other employees. If you do keep your COBRA with out an interruption of more that 63 days there will be no preexisting exclusion period. For more info use the link below. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com
  3. No. As soon as you are eligible for coverage with your new employer, you can jump on their plan, and they cannot exclude coverage for preexisting conditions, as you had no lapse in coverage.
  4. More than likely 'no'...and that's as far as I KNOW.... But, you'll want to check with the new plan because some companies have weird plans that don't fall under group guidelines. There are trust plans, individual plans, etc... so we wouldn't KNOW what kind of plan they would have.
  5. I am familiar with Utah state laws and the answer here would be no. You should be able to enroll in your employers group plan no matter where you are at in your COBRA period.
