Why should i vote for Obama? ?
Honestly-why? Let me describe my life. Im married-two kids-girls one is 10 and the other is almost 2. My wife and i both work. We are not rich-we are not poor. I guess you could call us middle class or maybe even upper middle class. We live in a suburb near Dayton, Ohio. Housing here can still be found relatively cheap. What we pay monthly for our full sized house is what rent costs for a one bedroom apartment in a big city. In other words, we bought our house with living by our means in mind. We bought a house that if one of us lost our job we could still afford it on one income. We have never had a problem making payments on the house or our cars. No major credit card debt, no problems with medical insurance as both of our jobs offer excellent medical plans. I am for the war in Iraq. I feel that regardless if we should have went in or not-well thats not the issue now. We are there and we must finish the job. I have had several relatives serve in Iraq and they feel the same. I am not coming here bragging about how good my life is, im just trying to show who i am and what i am about. I have been a life long democrat-as was my wife but we both just could not warm up to Obama. We had our minds set on Hillary but that didnt happen, now we both intend on voting for McCain. Can anyone tell me why i should vote for Obama? Can someone give me a good reason? Is there something that i could benefit from under a Obama presidency? I honestly am looking for a reason to win my vote.

- A very short answer.....you should not vote for him!
- 1. McCain has over 30 yrs of proven experience, character, leadership, personal ethics, clear vision on American needs, proven knowledge of foreign affairs, lower taxes, proven judgement. 2.Obama the Senator. He has only been a Senator for 18 months. But with all the recesses, four day weekends, campaigning and absences, Obama has only spent about 6 weeks of workdays on the Senate floor as one of the most junior Senators. Most of his votes, about 80% when he was not absent, have been "present" or "abstain". He also chairs a committee on Afghanistan that has never met because the chairman has never called a meeting. As a trial lawyer he only tried 14 cases in court - and minor ones at that. As a "community organizer" his major cause was getting the asbestos out of a housing project. After 2 years of trying, the asbestos was still there when he left and is still there even now that he is a Senator and esumably has some pull to get things done. That's it. His entire real world work resume. 6 weeks work in the Senate with nothing to show for it.Two years as a lawyer and only 14 minor trials. And two years as a "community organizer" with nothing accomplished.
- why do you think you have too??????????? having two parties to vote for always is only one more than china.... isnt it time we had a real choice...????????? write in ron paul......
- Honestly there is no reason to vote for Obama.
- Because Mccain is older than jesus
- sorry you won't find one. i feel sorry for the democrats. they got jipped this year.
- You made an excellent point...Now see how many Obama supporters can answer this... And great choice in coming to the winning side, McCain!!!
- You shouldn't. Obama's proposed tax increases and changes to the social system is a threat to your way of life.
- VOTE FOR OBAMA!! Mccain does nothing but make Attack ads towards Obama These ads are lies!1 Which proves that Mccain is nothing but a war hungry facist and will raise more taxes then obama ever will!!!
- Because is it better than voting for a placating supplicant like McCain.
- The only way to get by is to support the candidate that will support ENERGY. We only have 40% of the energy we need. We have not built a Nuclear plant in 30 years! McCain wants to build 20-30 of them and that will provide 700,000 new jobs! McCain wants to DRILL for oil so we don't have to buy it from the SAUDI's! And so we STOP funding TERRORISTS! Vote McCain for a safer and better economy!
- Because if you don't, he will set off a nuclear bomb at downtown Dayton, and will personally torture you until you vote for him. Then he will eat one of your daughters and throw the other one in a big poo puddle and make her trapped there for the rest of her life!!!! Your wife will have to be Obamas personal slave for the rest of her life, and as for the rest of your family they will recieve the "shredder" treatment. Then you will regret that you didn't vote for Obama and you will wet your pants with shame. Lol I was joking
- I wouldn't. Why vote for someone who hates America?
- Honestly, I don't know if I can give you a great answer one way or the other, but in my mind we as a country need a fresh face. And to me Obama is it. He is also willing to rebuild our relationships with other countries and to me that's where we need to start to help rebuild our economy. I can't say I'm definitely going to vote for him or anything like that. It is still way to early to tell, but that is what draws me to him. But the only real thing that draws me away from McCain is his age. The only real thing that draws me away from Obama is his lack of experience. If only there could be a president that was Republican and a VP that was Democrat because I think that they would compliment each other and together probably do a lot of good for this country. Plus it would be a way for Obama to gain the experience he needs to run a country.
- Don't!!!!!!!!!! We must stop this party crap and vote for the individual. I'm a former Hillary supporter. I liked her because she was moderate and had a good platform with little radically irresponsible changes. Good changes, not crazy ones that don't even sound realistic. But since she's not in the options, I'm choosing. Again, why- because he's moderate. He's NOT Bush and he has a lot of good and honest experience. He's also very much independent and is not hugging to the Republican party like he's on life support. I like people like that who follow their conscience rather than begging at their party's feet. YOu are more than welcome to vote for McCain like me. Do not by any means feel pressured by the Democratic party, in which you so long belonged, to force you to conform. We need to get rid of these idiotic party lines and VOTE FOR THE INDIVIDUAL that is best capable of leading this country.
- First of all, I encourage you to listen to Obama more. He has a lot of very good ideas for addressing the issues our country is facing. Here are a few of my favorites: 1. He has said he will overturn all the unconstitutional things Bush has done in his first 100 days. 2. He has said he will try to get the "Enron loophole" closed, which most oil industry analysts say will reduce the price of gas immediately by up to 60 percent. 3. He understands that one of the most important problems in our country is the power the corporate lobbyists have over our government, and he has promised to end that power and return the government to "the people," as in "for the people, of the people, by the people." 4. He knows the urgency of addressing climate change. 5. He realizes we need a timeline for getting out of Iraq responsibly and that even the Iraqis want us to have a timeline. 6. He is uniquely qualified to bridge a lot of the gaps and divides in our country, which I believe is crucial in order for us to address the critical issues facing us right now, like the value of our dollar, our reputation abroad, our military being stretched too thin, the price of gas, etc. 7. He understands that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link and wants to make sure that all our children get a good education. 8. His tax plan includes very large tax CUTS for the middle class because he believes our country cannot thrive without a healthy and growing middle class. I believe that, too. I respect you and your family and the life you're leading. I believe that your family is precisely the type of family that will benefit from having Obama as president. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure most Americans believe that Bush has done a terrible job, and McCain agrees with many of his policies and, in fact, goes even further than Bush on some issues. So it seems to me that a change is needed, and indeed I believe Obama will be a positive change. Good luck to you and God bless you and your family.
- Because, before Reagan Republicans got their way, both parents didn't have to work to have the same living standards that you currently have. Americans didn't have to have the TV and other people raise our families for us, while we were at work making the money to support them...and people wonder why American morals have declined! It is time to reverse this trend and restore our former place in this world before both China, India, pushes us to 3rd world status, since we produce little as a nation compared to what we produced 75 years ago. and to the person who mentioned energy above, no nuclear plants have been built in 30 years, just like no new refineries have been built, because it is more profitable for corporations to downsize after derregulation occured in the 80s, especially when the sheep will blame the environmentalists who really have no power to thwart the actions of big money. No nuclear energy corporation is going to build a new nuclear plant when the new gas cooled 4th generaion reactors are being developed to produce energy and hydrogen fuel. It doesn't make good business sense at all to build 40 billion $$ reactors only to have them shut down by companies building ones that will produce hydrogen fuel. Anyone who is mentioning building new ones is either suggesting socialism by having the government do it, or lying to you because it isn't going to happen until 4th generation technology is ready to be built. McCain is talking out of both sides of his mouth. On one side he is saying we need to expand free-trade agreements(NAFTA = more of our jobs going to China, Columbia when included, mexico and other latin Americna countries), while at teh same time he is claiming he wants to create more jobs in detroit ect. now how do you create more jobs when you want to expand the very thing that is responsible for jobs going over seas to begin with? Obama isn't near perfect, but he doesn't want to give American companies even more incentive to move out of our country.
- I've been to Dayton! I grew up in Detroit and we once went down to Dayton for some reason having to do with my dad's business. I thought it was a nice little town. Of course that was in the 50s. It probably looks different now. Well I have two reasons. You might not like them but they make sense to me. One is that the Bush administration is completely out of control. No respect for the Constitution. You might think this is okay because they're Republicans. But think about this--everything Bush does and gets away with is a precedent for the next president. The next Democratic president now will be able to arrest people and hold them indefinitely without charges or habeas corpus. He will be able to issue signing statements declaring himself immune to laws he himself has passed. He will be able to use the justice department to protect his power. Not good! Republicans do a much better job of holding a Democratic president responsible and accountable than vice versa. The Republicans didn't let Bill Clinton get away with sh*t. And Obama will have to toe the line too. Or he could simply decide to have Republicans arrested on fake charges and torture them until they confess to something--Bush opened the door for that. The other reason has to do with McCain. I respected him in 2000 when he had his own ideas, his own proposals. But the party didn't want someone who thought for himself so they smeared him and destroyed his candidacy. This year he is a Team Player and has changed all his positions to line up with the same party leaders who run the Bush Administration. He's decided he's not against torture after all, for instance. He's decided that tax cuts during a time of high deficits are a good thing. He hasn't been able to distance himself from Bush, or hasn't been allowed to. So all he can offer us is four more years of Bush's policies, and I believe (and MOST Americans believe) that these policies have failed. If McCain was running as an independent I might even vote for him myself. But as it is he is just a spokesman for the Party, just as Bush is. Obama will try to cut deficits, as Bill Clinton did. He will cut YOUR taxes, as Bill Clinton did, instead of only making millionaires richer, as Bush did. Average American family income was raised by $6000 during Clinton's two terms, and he also cut spending, made govt. smaller, and put us on track towards a balanced budget. Your income went down by $1000 between 2000 and 2003 under Bush. Bush is running the biggest deficits in US history, even adjusted for inflation, and that's NOT COUNTING the cost of the Iraq War. We are so far in debt now, and our debt growing so quickly, that our currency is losing its value. The cost we Americans pay for health insurance has gone up 70-80% during Bush's presidency, and it was considered a crisis even before that. Do you really want four more years of this?
- I've been reading your questions and answers for months and you aren't a Democrat at all so why are you posing as one?
- You mentioned that you and your wife were going to vote for Hillary. You are in my camp. Although I am not excited about either candidate, I can tell you that Obama has more in common with Hillary than McCain. Under Obama, you will, likely, be seeing a tax decrease. The major differences between Obama and McCain are their economic policies. Bush and McCain are very similar in that respect. So, although you aren't hurting at the moment, if the economy continues toward the train wreck its seems doomed to become, you will need someone at the helm that can change course. Obama wants to invest more money in rebuilding our infrastructure and find new resources for clean energy. This includes developing automobiles that run on alternative fuels, thus opening up new job markets in places like Ohio. If McCain is elected, we will continue to see a disappearing middle class and the wealthiest Americans will continue to capitalize on the misfortune of the masses.
- Honestly, the only reason I can think of is if you want to quit working and live on public assistance. Your kids would get free lunches and breakfast at school. You'd get at least $600 per month food stamps and you would get all medical care and prescriptions free! You could sit around all day and drink beer, while the kids are at school, and receive an SSI check if you pretend to be nuts. trying to be funny, but still serious.
- I don't care who YOU vote for. I only care who I vote for.
- I have the same question, and all I keep hearing is that he black, he is for change, he wants to give us all government Christmas gifts, and he will join the two parties together (something he never even attempted as Senator). None of these does it for me. Hillary was my lady.
- Unless you are Black or on welfare I really don't see a reason to vote for Obama, or you are to lazy to pay for your own college or health care.
- You shouldn't.
- Going from Hillary to McCain, When Obama has more in line with Hillary is hard to see why you change your vote to a Republican. The Hillary opposes the Iraq war and wants to bring our troops back, Obama too. Hillary wants universal health care, Obama does too. you are a working class american, and Hillary as well as Obama represents that class and small business owners. The tax plan Obama proposes, lets you bring more of your income home and McCains favors the rich and burdens the working class. So why should you pay more percentage wise of your income then some that makes millions or even billions. The corporations are already avoiding taxes by out sourcing. Look at how rich China and India are becoming. Now I have nothing against outsourcing to a point. But if they are already making tax free profits is to much to ask that they do their part too and pay their fair share of taxes.
- I'm British, so its really none of my business; but I would tell you to go with your gut feeling. Don't feel you have to do something because you have, "ALWAYS done it that way". You have a choice - don't let anyone convince you to do something you feel would not be in your best interests or the interests of your country. I think you know what you want to do.
