Blue Cross of California, UnitedHealth Group Inc letters to physicians aimed to cancel patients' insurance
Facing a torrent of criticism Tuesday, Blue Cross of California abruptly halted its practice of asking physicians in a letter to look for medical conditions that could be used to cancel patients' insurance coverage. Do you think this should be stopped? Link to story: http://www.retirementcommunity.com/news/story.php?title=Blue_Cross_halts_letters_to_physicians_aimed_to_cancel_patients_insurance

- No, I don't want to pay higher insurance rates just to cover a bunch of decrepit old people.
- I hope that what you found was a bad joke in poor taste. This would really tick off alot of people in this country.
- this was an overblown news item blue cross has been sending these letters to doctors for years but they have nothing to do with canceling the insurance, they are trying to better serve the customer so that they know what wellness programs may benefit them.
- I briefly had insurance through this group and heck yes, I think it should be stopped. Their letters bordered on harassment. What insurance companies get away with is criminal.
- I think it is a dreadful thing to do to people. Many people have health insurance and never use it, so it should all equal out in the long run. Some insurance companies cancel the patients insurance after they use the coverage. Some companies choose to insure their employees with an insurer, one employee gets ill, and the insurance company either jacks up the price of coverage or cancels and will not renew coverage.
- No Tinman this is not a bad joke, and Nate - yes I saw this on the MSNBC news - these two insurance companies are looking at their current client's "pre-existing conditions" and if they get sick (and hospitalized for same) they will have their insurance cancelled. If it is not a pre-existing condition, insurance stays in tact - but if that was me I would be looking for another insurance company! That is just not a good way to do business. CJ
- It seems under handed to me. Are the doctors being paid big bucks for this type of information? After all, I thought the doctor was suppose to be on his/her patient's side.
- Arnold won't let them get away with it...he's our Governator! This is WAR! The insurance people will lose & the people will win...no discrimination shall prevail on our citizens of this fine state.
- Yes, this was true, BC was trying to get doctors to go against their Medical Code of Honor. ( to not tell any thing about patients condition) in order to be able to deny claims for pre-existing conditions. Anyway the story got out and the uproar began. Doctors were flabbergasted that they would even attempt to do this. They have since backed down on this request in hopes of curtailing the outburst that occurred. But it just shows what extremes they will go to, to save money.
- That is not fair. I would love to see medical health for everyone in America, but I won't vote democrat.
