Scan Medical Insurance

What do I do since I don't have medical insurance?

I have an abnormal growth in my throat that has caused major uncomfortably, and sever coughing and fever... I don't have medical insurance... and I know that the ER will ONLY "stabilize" without insurance... what do I do? Part of me really doesn't want to know what it is because there is nothing I can do about it... Kinda scared, any information would be greatly appreciated! I am 28years old and have been smoking a pack a day since I was 14years old... and just recently quit smoking!

  1. You need to check at the public health clinic or go to the city/county hospital. If you don't go, it could become worse or an actual emergency that may cost more than a doc visit. Call an ENT doc's office and ask how much the office visit is and or tell the doc when he examines you. You'll get a lot of No answers if you tell them no insurance. Just call around, doc's have different fees. Good luck.
  2. You need to get it checked. Knowledge is power. For all you know, it may not even be cancer. Check with some local walk in clinics to see if any of them will see you on a payment plan. If you have a credit card, this may be the time to pull it out. Or, ask to borrow it from someone. I know borrowing money sucks, but you really should get this looked at.
  3. I would Apply at your local welfare department and they can help you with medical insurance and if that's not an option most caseworkers at the hospital will help you with either a payment plan or paperwork to help you get insurance
  4. If I were in your position I would try organizations like the city of hope, The American Cancer Society and a few others. You can start by checking the yellow pages in the section that gives you organizations listed in the front pages. After all, people donate to these organizations for the purpose at hand. Good luck to you !
