What's the best affordable health insurance for a freelancer?
I was laid off in March and still need to figure out a health plan. Not being covered is scary! How can I get some coverage that's affordable ASAP? Thanks.

- It depends on if you prefer a PPO or an HMO. HMO's don't allow you to go to certain healthcare providers while PPO's have a much larger network. Think Kaiser (hmo) vs Blue Shield (ppo). Most carriers are now age rated, so the younger you sre the cheaper it is. Check these sites for quotes. https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ehi/Alliance?allid=Goo18311&entry=SE&ad=blues&sid=BLUE+CROSS+Top+041107-1 http://www.individual-health-plans.com/kaiserpermanente.htm
- Rates and plans vary by such things as: age, where you live and the type of plan. In order to get the best plan I would suggest a couple of things: 1) Use some reliable free on line rating services to compare as many plans as possible. Some of the more popular and reliable are: http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-3014621-10457629 http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-2952034-10392698 http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-3014621-10361944 http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-2977717-10494355 http://www.usinsuranceonline.com/usio/index.php?refID=11923&refCampaign=11923&kw= http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-2952034-10359791 http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=Bq5VvAc2a/Y&offerid=142278.10000029&type=3&subid=0 By taking your time and requesting quotes from each of these free service and also taking the time to compare the quotes you should be able to find a good plan and good rates. Also you should check out http://www.InsuranceEasy.org at the bottom of their homepage under the heading "Consumer Learning Center" there is a link to "Health Insurance Glossary" which will help you understand all the terms associated with health insurance. 2) Once you have descided on a couple of quotes that you feel are the best options you need to check out the insurance company that is offering the quote. Are they financially sound? You also can do this at http://www.InsuranceEasy.org Click on the "Useful Links" located at the very bottom of their homepage and then use independent insurance rating services such as AM Best, etc to check out the insurance companies rating.
- Try this one - http://healthplans.bebto.com - I personally have their health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage.
- An HSA type of plan is going to be the most affordable, plus you get tax savings benefits. For more info abut how an HSA works - see link below. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com
