does an MRI scan search the whole body or just one part?

I'm getting an MRI scan on my ankle today and was wandering if the machine will just do my ankle or my whole body as i've got to go in the whole machine, not sure what happens. Thannks.

  1. itll just do the ankle
  2. It will just scan the ankle, ull be in there for 20-30 min, just for one scan.
  3. They can do just the ankle.
  4. they will only study your ankle
  5. The MRI scanner can scan your whole body, but it can also target just one area, so if you have been told the scan is of your ankle that's the only section which will be scanned even if your whole body has to go into the machine.
  6. An MRI is an X-ray of your whole body.
  7. An MRI can do either one. If you only need one spot scanned, it will only do that one spot, but it has the ability to do your entire body. In your case it will only scan your ankle.
  8. It can scan part of body and if need be can scan whole body.
  9. Just like a xray machine it will focus only on the part they want to work on. Just happens you have to go all the way in to get to the ankle. Unless it is a stand up version. Never can tell.
  10. Well, you can actually do specific MRI scans on body parts or you can do the entire body. Here is what to expect: Cold temp. in the room where the MRI machine is located Removal of all metal suck as ear rings, rings, toe ring. One MRI usually takes about 45 mins to complete. Paperwork, questions and the MRI in 45 mins. When the machine is on a loud banginf noise will come from the machine. It sounds like a fireman knocking on your door during a fire to get your attention. Dn't let it freak you out becuase it is LOUD. If the dr. does place you in a full body scan for your MRI. The table and tube that you will go in does have air flow, it is loud with the noise and can be a tight squeeze. I am not closterfobic but I was a inside of there! The tube will be inches away from your nose.
  11. just your ankle.
