Just about 6 weeks pregnant and no health insurance what should i do?

The last few days i've been searching online for health care plans but the quotes i've seen are like $300 plus a month. I cant afford that right now im 24 and pay rent and all my other bills myself. Can anyone please give me some suggestions and or advice as to what to do??? I understand i wont get insurance over night but i need it asap!!

  1. if you have low income you can try to apply for medicaid or chips
  2. apply for medicaid since you are already pregnant you will not be able to get private health insurance even if you could afford it. I would apply now cause they have 30 days to process it, Good luck
  3. Maternity Advantage... 800-814-8692. http://www.maternityadvantage.com/form2/benefits.asp I honestly don't know how good they are... or if it's worth it.. but call anyway... you never know. Good luck!
  4. No insurance company is going to insure you if you are already pregnant. Like everyone said, try Medicaid. If you don't qualify a lot of the times you can set up a payment plan with your doctor.
  5. If you are in the US apply for medicaid. My husband got laid off & I dont have any health insurance at my job so I had to apply for medicaid & I was excepted. People put our government down but they do alot of good things as well. Me & my husband our hard working people & just couldnt afford it & it really helped us to get medicaid. They pay for every thing....
  6. I don't know who said that no insurance will cover you for being pregnant, but that's not true. Legally they have to cover you. Anyway, it really depends on what state you're in, I think. Last year, I was pregnant in Texas, and my man's insurance wouldn't let me on because we weren't actually married (but we were living together), and Medicaid wouldn't cover me because we WERE living together. My man told me that was because Texas doesn't have state taxes, only federal, so I don't know what's up with that. Now, I'm in Oklahoma, and Medicaid will cover me. Your best bet is to contact DHS and try to get on Medicaid. They base your payments on your income. In the meantime, go ahead and find a good doctor to make an appointment with. Nowadays, you can easily find one with a payment plan or that will hold off on your costs until you get insurance, because getting good prenatal care is becoming more and more necessary, and they try to make sure everyone is getting it. The earlier you go in and be seen, the better they can track your baby's growth and make sure that everything is okay. Go to the store and get some prenatal pills, and chill. Stress isn't good for the baby. You'll find some help somewhere. If DHS can't help you, they can probably refer you to someone who will.
  7. I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and when I found OUT I was pregnant I also found out that my boss did not add maternity coverage to my insurance policy they provide. Needless to say, I've been paying $25 a month since my first dr.'s visit and will probably pay $25 a month on the hospital bill after I deliver. I talked to the billing specialist at my dr.'s office and she said as long as I pay SOMETHING every month then it would be fine. I am having to pay the $500 epidural deposit out of pocket and the circumcision fee of $225 out of pocket before delivery. Other than that.. my "baby Levi" will be paid off eventually..
  8. I don't know what state you are in but call 211. No seriously it's United Way and they will direct you to some very resourceful places to help you with that, you can call from any state and it will connect you locally. And also try medicaid. Look up social services for your county on the net and it will tell you where to go to apply for state insurance. ORRRR.. if there is a city health department or local clinic. I don't so much reccommend the clinic as I do a city health department. That is what I am going through right now it costs but far less than I would pay out of pocket for dr. visists myself.
  9. Try for medicade, most pregnant women can get on that as it is impossible to get on any insurance one pregnancy has been confirmed.
  10. Health dept or birthright can refer you in the proper direction
  11. You can see if you are eligible for medicaid. Or you can find a job that will offer you benefits. -Edit- There are laws in the US stating that pregnancy can not be considered a pre-existing condition. So you can't be denied for regular insurance because you are pregnant.
  12. Hey there, best way is to call around, get quotes. You need to do some leg work on this, there are cheap insurers out there but they aren't going to seek you out.
