What is the difference between Major Medical and Medical coverage?

When dealing with Health insurance, what are some things that are considered Major medical and what is considered medical? I'm doing a health insurance project. I chose kaiser permanente.

  1. Major Medical means just that, any major medical problems. Medical coverage usually consists of anything medical. You have to read the companies coverage policy to see what is included/excluded.Every policy will be different.
  2. Major medical, usually means a high deductible medical coverage plan. So that the "little" stuff isn't covered - little stuff being defined as stuff under $10,000. So, if you break a finger, with $2,000 of bills - not covered. If you need open heart surgery, $100,000 of bills, they pay the $90,000.
  3. Major medical is a type of medical coverage. It has NOTHING to do with the size of the deductible. A hospital/surgical plan, a ppo, an HMO, an indemnity plan (which is usually major medical) are all types of medical coverage as well....
