How long after marriage can non working wife have health insurance from Husbands work insurance? Dental?

My boyfriend has blue cross blue shield insurance from his work. So if we got married how long would it take for me to be able to get on his health plan insurance. Like dentist and medical stuff Thank you

1. most places you can get on his plan immediatley, but usually takes 30 days to go in effect

4. With HBCBS it occurs from the date of marriage.
5. It depends on the policy. Read his and it will tell you. You may be able to look it up on line or call the carrier.
6. Marriage is considered a "life change" When a life change occurs, you generally have a time limit (usually 10-30 days) to change your insurance, so in that time limit your new husband could add you to his policy.
7. Same day..may take up to 30 days to activate.
8. The effective date of coverage will be on the first day of the month after your marriage, after his HR department turns in the paperwork. You might check to see if your state has common law marriages for domestic partners, then you wouldn't have to wait until you got married. Be advised that if you don't already have insurance, the insurance company can impose a 12 to 18 month waiting period before covering preexisting conditions. See link below for text of the law.
