What risk would I take to not bother with travel medical insurance while abroad?

- well other countries dont have a medical system like ours so insurance would be useless abroad.
- Trust me get the insurance. Depending on where you travel to if you get sick or injured the medical costs are huge. Plus think of theft or losing your belongs.
- Double check with your medical insurance company to see if they cover medical expenses while out of the country - many policies do. In the event you need to see a doctor while outside of the country, you will more than likely have to pay the doctor up front, but then the insurance company could reimburse you for what you paid. Your risk of traveling without insurance is like having no medical insurance at all - you may not see the doctor whatsoever and end up paying for insurance you didn't need, or you could run up huge medical bills and not have any way to get them paid.
- If your main insurer doesn't cover you abroad, you should get medical insurance. It could cost thousands if you need help. Try a comparison site for prices and cover.
