Scan Medical Insurance

anyone ever used travel medical insurance? Who did you get it with? Are you glad you purchased it?

I live in El Salvador with my wife and will be travelling to New Jersey for two weeks starting this coming sunday! We will have our 1 year old baby with us!

1. Of course you should! What would you do if you or your wife or your baby have a medical emergency? They will not treat you in the United States without some form of insurance. Check into the different kinds available to you in El Salvador. In Canada we use RBC,Transat Insurance, etc. There are tons of them you want one with a high coverage ie: 1 million for emergencies etc. Most do not cover pre existing conditions such as heart problems etc unless stable for 3 months prior to departure. I always recommend that people take it as I am a travel agent and always take it myself when I travel. It just takes one small problem to create a huge bill in the United States. I know of a person whose wife went into the hospital during their trip and he had a headache due to stress of the situation and the nurse asked him if he wanted an asprin or two for his headache. He said yes thinking what a nice nurse to offer this and was charged when they got the bill $50 Us per pill! They did not have coverage and have had to declare bankruptcy due to this trip as thier bill was just under 1 million as she had a stroke and was unable to be moved for 2-3 months. Make sure your insurance covers air ambulance so they can take you home if possible and bedside assistance in case they need to bring someone from home to help out the other travellers and coverage in case something happens to both of you parents. You need to think about your child as well as yourselves what would happen if you were both injured or worse? Who would take care of the baby? So many reasons to take insurance I don't understand why anyone would not take it. Better safe than sorry! Plus it's not that expensive and if it saves your life. Alot of the insurance companies also have translators and nurses on standby to help with any kind of medical issue in case of dispute. So take it and you will sleep better at night and be out a small amount of cash instead of a ton of it!
