Scan Medical Insurance

Do I really need Medical Payments coverage on my car insurance if I have liability and a major medical policy?

I carry liability on the policy and have a separate major medical on myself.

  1. yes, you should still carry medical. most insurance companies make you now days but I have $2000 medical on mine and I still have complete health coverage. You never know if some thing falls through the cracks and you need it. Like Ambulance transport righ toff the bat is like $400 and you health coverage may not cover. Better safe than sorry.
  2. In New Jersey you do.In California you do not. It is called personal Injury protection (PIP). PIP has increased ny insurance by about 800 dollars . I paid 600 for my complete coverage for my SUV in cal. When i moved to NJ my insurance more than doubled to 1400
  3. Medical payments pays anyone in and around your car regardless of fault. I have seen a couple of goofy claims. Like a boyfriend coming up to car slips and falls into car and breaks 2 ribs. Medical payments paid for this college students medical bills which helped since he didnt have medical coverage. It not always about you and your car but others. Good luck.
  4. Great question. No one here knows the answer, you didn't list enough information. Some questions: Does your state mandate that any auto injuries have to be paid by an auto carrier? Will your health insurance pay for injuries in an auto accident? You need to ask that question of both your auto insurance agent, and your health insurance company. If they both answer the same way, you're ok to drop the med pay. If there's a conflict between what they tell you, or they both advise you to keep it, you need to keep it. OH, and liability will NEVER cover you. It only ever covers the other guy.
