Medical Insurance Question?

Hi, I am 20 yrs old and not currently working so no medical insurance of my own, however I am on my husband's Blue cross blue shield and we have to fulfill a yearly deductible before they will cover hardly anything and it is a sucky insurance.. My husband has over $36,000 in CD's in the bank and they cant be taken out for over 6 yrs.. So im worried that because of this I wont qualify for like medicaid or something, the money isnt in my name, My name is broke. lol . What can I qualify for?? Im worried about his insurance covering my delivery and all my doctor's visits!

  1. i was in the same position i also have a similar amount in CD's in the bank and was afraid to file for medi-cal becaus eif they find out about that they are going to want every penny. so we got married and i am on his insurance. but that doesn't solve your problem.. hmm. is there any way that you could transfer ownership of the CD's to his mother or someone so that it looks like you are both broke lol/? i don't know, hopefully someone else has a good answer for ya , best of luck to you!
  2. Did you try to get insurance threw the state?? Can you get insurance in your name?? You can have insurance and your husbands at the same time. What one does not cover the other usually does. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!
  3. If you are listed on his insurance, why wouldn't his insurance cover you? My husband's insurance has covered me in the past. I switched jobs and he is now on my insurance. We've never had a problem. Why is everyone encouraging her to get insurance through the state? Why - so we can pay for it? That is set up for people who have no ther alternative. Check with your husband's insurance and see what they cover. Also, I have CDs as well. I can break them -- I just have to pay a penalty and you dont get the full return but you can still access that money. your husband may need to do that if you have to pay the deductible.
  4. well here is how you screwed yourself- -- you would of qualified for medicaid -- but since you currently have insurance you can't get medicaid -- oh well enjoy filing bankruptcy -- when all those bills come in =)
  5. Apply anyway, the worst they can say is, "no". Aside from that, you can save some money if you qualify for WIC. Good luck hun. Also, have hubby call the insurance company, it really isn't that hard lol. Believe me, I deal with insurance every day.
  6. Unfortunately, pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition and insurance companies won't touch you with a 10 foot pole (trust me I know) I got something called maternity card which is a scam..it's costing me more than saving me money so stay away from that. Sorry I can't offer you more info...as another user mentioned earlier...being middle class sucks. Hope someone has better advice for you. Congrats on your baby.
  7. Without all of the plan information it's hard to advise. There is coinsurance involved also that will cover a percentage of the cost considered usual and customary amounts. In NJ all plans have a maximum out of pocket amount. Once you meet the Max you are covered at 100%. Because you are covered under a group health plan you don't qualify for medicaid either. Sorry without all the info, this is the best I can do.
  8. When qualifying for state assistance, the state will consider your husbands assests and income too. You probably wont qualify.
  9. Your OB-GYN will check with your insurance to let you know exactly what Blue Cross Blue Shield will cover. I also have Blue Cross Blue Shield and have already met our $250.00 annual deductible...delivery of our child is going to cost us $100.00. BCBS covers a lot of maternity costs...plus no co-pays. The OB-GYN will bill the insurance company directly for all your visits and the BCBS will bill you any portion they don't cover (up until you meet your annual deductible).
  10. Because of your husbands assets you will not qualify for medicaid. However, BCBS is pretty good insurance. You need to find out what your individual and family deductibles are. And see how much of that deductible has been met. Generally, the deductibles are between 100-500 per person. Once you reach it ( by paying out of pocket for the first couple appointments) you will be covered no matter what ( for the rest of the year) . The highest I've seen deductibles is $1500per person and 3000 for family. That would be the case if he got the cheapest, crappiest plan his company has. LOL Give BCBS a call and find out exactly how much you have to meet. . and ( depending if you or your husband have gone to the doc at all this year) You may have already met part of it. So find that out . . its probably not as bad as you think. and as long as you go to a doctor in your network. . the plan will usually pay between 80-100% of the costs. Call them and check it out. But, medicaid is out of the question .. unless you have your marriage annuled or get divorced. But you probably do not want to do that. Good luck!
  11. I'd recommend calling your local social services office for some advise, my understaing of medicaid is it's for uninsured people or people with low incomes. Depending on how much your husband makes and the size of your family you may or may not qualify. The cd's being in your husband's name doesn't make a difference really you two are still married, and not disclosing information can be as harmful to you as your deductible if the state finds out you will be responsible for having to pay all that money back so talk to someone before anything.
