Other than government assistance, what else can you do for medical coverage when pregnant?
I am pregnant with no medical insurance. My husband and I had blue cross blue shield that ended in Feb '07. I found out 3 months after the insurance was canceled when he got laid off so there'e nothing they can do since there is a lapse. I can't get anything else because my pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition. I can't get medicaid or CHIP because they said I make too much money. Does anyone have any ideas other than Maternity card?

- I thought all pregnancies reagrdless of income wer to be covered under medicaid. Try a federally funded health care center. They are supposed to do sliding scale care.
- there are programs through highmark for adults. my mom has it and she has pre-existing breast cancer and diabetes. she pays about $30 a month for it. its borderline to the govt, but its not the same as the access (govt). try calling your local aging services office and ask them for some information. they may be able to tell you more. I know that sounds funny cause you're not that old, but they may have info you can use. explain to them your situation. there has to be help out there while you're in this situation and i know the cobra for insurance is outrageous usually.
- Sweetie I know that you must be stressed over this.I went through the same thing.I applied for medi-cal & they denied me because I am a homeowner & because according to them my husband makes too much money.I tried to get help in other ways like through programs the hospital has but no luck.I now am in all kinds of collection agency & my credit score has gone to the pits & I have no money to cover any of this. Please be wise & don't give up!!! I would suggest something I didn't think of at the time.Call a pro life center they might have info on getting help paying for the expenses.I wish you the very best!!! Good luck to you!
- You must have too much assets. Did you apply for pregnancy medicaid, some states have it and some don't. I would check in with the local health department, and speak with human services counselor. The health department itself sees pregnant women for pre-natal checkups. There are programs that are provided through nonprofit organizations that can assist you in receiving help for your pregnancies. It really depends on the state and city you live in. Apply for loans through your bank to help you cover your costs of pre-natal and deliveries. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do if you make to much money, they only have some much allotted for those who make barely anything. Try to reapply your status might have changed, because your husband is laid off. Good luck
- What state do you live in? This doesn't sound right, you should qualify unless you make to much money for the amount of people in your family. And if you don't have medical you should be able to get medical.
