In need of individual dental/eye insurance plan?

I can't seem to be able to find a provider of individual dental and vision insurance. My employer recently dropped these benefits.

  1. Being someone who sells employee benefits, I can tell you that I typically advise my clients to not purchase vision and dental. One typically does not recoup the cost of the premium. Here is what I would do, look up GE Wellness. This is a card that would cost $120 for a family per year. It is not insurance, it is the discounts that GE negotiated with providers...Compare this discount card with insurance, then do the math....It should just make more sense....
  2. I have an individual eye plan through VSP. It costs me about $20 a month ($40 for a family plan). Cost is dependant upon where you live and how many in your family. http://vsp.careington.com/vsp_desc_vsp.aspx Delta Dental offers individual plans for about $100 per year for individuals or about $225 for families. http://www.deltadental.com/Public/PlanInfo/planLocator.jsp?DView=AboutPlanLocator
  3. Well, there are individual dental plans out there, the problem is they don't pay out more than they take in. When you "run the numbers" you'll find out you're better off paying out of pocket. The coverages are different, the copays are steep, there are waiting periods, etc. I don't know of any individual vision plans, though. That's even MORE like maternity coverage - you only buy it if you want to use it. Kinda defeats the whole "spread the risk" idea behind insurance. You're probably best off paying out of pocket for both.
  4. I found interesting information about your answer here. http://all-insurance-online.blogspot.com/2007/08/health-insurance.htmlGood luck! If you need an expensive dental job (eyes too): Argentina (medical travel) very cheap and the best dentist.
  5. A yearly cleaning and exam will cost you less without the insurance. Because of the deductible and waiting periods individual dental insurance is seldom is worth the premium and vision is never worth the premium. The fee for service type of discount plans are decent though. Some discount plans are scams so you need to watch out. Here is the link to find the GE plan that was mentioned above: http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?locationid=20349 Also look at the Aetna plan. Both are very good plans and some will include some vision discounts. Make sure you check the providers before signing up with any plan.

  7. My company dropped dental and vision as well. I have a discount medical plan for dental and vision. Insurance for dental and vision doesn't pay anything. When my company had vision I still paid $320 out of pocket and I had insurance.
