Will the AARP Health Insurance Plan have to cover Maternity? Since there will be a panel of what things that need to be covered for any insurance that wants to be a part of the "exchange" will that mean AARP's Health Insurance Company has to cover Maternity?
Should I buy an AARP health insurance plan? I see commercials for these plans all the time on TV - are they worth it?
How easy is it to get individual health insurance through AARP? I'm transitioning into self-employment and finding that private health insurers are declining coverage to me based on my weight and high blood pressure (well-controlled). I'll be 50 very soon and will fill out applications to AARP. The telephone representative was very friendly on the phone. Does anyone know if their underwriting is more flexible than the mainline companies?
AARP? Health insurance cost? Car insurance? i am currently looking into aarp for my parents. they are currently 59 and self employed, entering retirement very soon. i am not too familar with aarp but have gotten an application in the mail as well as researched their website. i know the annual fee is $12.50. it would be very helpful if anyone who is a member give me some prices they are paying for health insurance, car insurance or any helpful information as to whether it is worth joining. thanks!
How Much Was AARP Paid To Endorse The Health Bill? AARP is now endorsing the health care bill. How much do you think they stand to gain for this endorsement? AARP has come under attack in recent weeks for its considerable earnings from insurance royalties -- more than $650 million from the sale of insurance policies, credit cards and other products. I also noticed they have a new AARP Health Insurance available mid November.
Where can I find an AARP person to talk to about health Insurance? In live in North Manchester Indiana. I am a widow. Insurance for myself and I am 63. Birthday is 10/08/1943. Fairly good health and my Insurance Premiums are OUT-OF-SIGHT. I draw each month $1004 and my health Ins. is up to $442 a mo. this isn't including my payment for Life Ins. I hear that the AARP Organization is good. Been trying to get ahold of them but, with this talking-to-a-machine thing is just not working so, is their someone out their that would know when and where the next AARP Meeting is going to be at? Maybe I could talk to someone face to face.
Health insurance through AARP? My grandparents have decided to change their supplemental insurance (they are currently covered my medicare +supplement). There have been a few issues with the supplemental leading to them wanting to change. First question, grandma (age 90) had a stroke recently (resulting in her spending the last 2 months in a nursing home) and has alzheimer's. What kind of problems does this pose for changing supplemental coverage? Second, the family would like to move grandparents to Florida (closer to large portion of the family and one person could live with them). So, insurance would have to be usable down there. Current supplement, is not usable in Florida. Finally, we are looking at AARP insurance. It looks like this is provided through United Healthcare. What experiences have people had using this type of coverage? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Is AARP a good health insurance plan? I'm in my 20s, any suggetions of a good health insurance coverage plan? hospital, perscription, the whole nine!?!?
Why are insurance companies such as AARP the strongest supporters of the health insurance reform bill? AARP is the biggest lobby group for Doctors. They and insurance companies are the biggest funders and supporters of health reform. Is it a scam pretending it is good for us so we let them vote for what is in fact best for them? (I'd be more specific but since the bill is not being released to the public and we are blind to what is in it other than talking points I can't give details as to what is exactly good for them and how it will scrw us over). Thoughts? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, says Thursday she has the necessary votes to pass a health care bill. Washington (CNN) -- The push to overhaul health care received a major boost Thursday as the American Medical Association and AARP endorsed ... I know Blue Shield for example is in favor of health insurance reform because then it allows them to remove certain coverages that is now required of them to provide with every plan they sell. In turn they will make those 'extras' they charge more for. Last week a list of people who have visited the white house since Obama's office was released in the Washington Post. The person who had the most visits (over 20), her credentials in wikipedia lists her as the most powerful lobbyist for health care AND oil.(other guests included Denzel Washington, Sereena Williams, Oprah etc.) ken, it's 1,990 pages in legal language, I'll read it when I get a law degree.
What is the best health insurance to have if you are United States Federal Government employee and why? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance. Should I keep this insurance? I checked with AARP through Hartford and they want between $299 to $428 per month for non drug related $5000 to $1000 deductible 80% coverage to $2500 co pay to 100% coverage. I pay about $250 per month now.
Why is the White House putting a gag order on the insurance industry but not the AARP? Isn't there a 1st amendment or have we "changed" that! http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/24/house-republicans-hearing-health-insurance-company-gag-order/
Why would AARP support health care reform if the $500 billion cut to medicare would hurt the elderly? and why did the democrats remove the special handling of "Medicare Advantage" for Florida if the democrats thought that would cause them to lose all those Florida seniors in next presidential election? In my opinion, the programs being cut have no advantage to seniors but is just a giveaway to insurance companies. There are better programs such as Medicare Supplemental that aren't subsidized by the government.
Best options for health insurance? Hello. I'm a 22 Year old female with no known medical problems, a full time student, employed part time, living with elderly parents on Medicare and AARP. I'm not eligible for insurancce through my employer because I am only part time and cannot work full time because of school obligations. Insurance offered through my school is not at all comprehensive. Also, I believe I cannot get insurance via my parents because they are elderly: 70, 71 years old on Medicare and AARP. What are my best, most cost efficient options for health insurance?
i seen a health insurance commercial they had a number i cant remember it? its nots aflac, not an attorney, not aarp, not blue cross blue shield, not hap, it said $167 for single and i think $247 for family
Why have Members of the AARP not found another voice to object to the Board members that back the Health Care? It seems to me if they were against it you would hear a lot of griping. Could it be that AARP is also their Insurance provider ( supplement ) and they can't speak out or they will lose it?
I am on long term disability. I am experiencing problems getting health insurance. Any ideas?? I cannot get medicaid because I make too much money. I cannot draw medicare for two years. My major problem is prescription coverage. At this point I don't care about hospital coverage. I have COPD so I have a lot of medications that I have to take to stay alive. Any help is greatly appreciated. AARP turned me down because I am on disability. I am 60 years old.
AARP endorses Obama care, Did you hear? AARP, who sells health insurance, has endorsed Obama care. This special interest group helped Bush shove the terrible prescription drug plan down our senior citizens throats. The donut hole which is bankrupting some of our seniors. And the ban on the government negotiating lower drug prices with the rich drug companies. AARP is only interested in lining their own pockets. They are just another bunch of crooked lobbyists. They entice people to join by giving them discounts on things. Then they use all those names to claim they speak for many people. They are just slick talking crooked lobbyists.
What are some clubs I could join to get association group health insurance? I don't have group health insurance through my job, and I am being turned down for individual coverage due to pre-existing conditions. I know some clubs and non-profit organizations offer group insurance to their members- for example, the AARP offers it to members over the age of 50. I'm only 30, but I need health insurance. Please help! Actually I'm wrong, the AARP health insurance is individual coverage, not group coverage, which means they can deny people with pre-existing conditions. There must be SOME group coverage out there that people can join... but where is it?!?
Do you want denied insurance coverage for being a donor or do you want a public option? http://bulletin.aarp.org/yourhealth/policy/articles/organ_donors_run_risk_of_being_denied_health_insurance.html We just gave AIG 80 billion dollars and your saying the government can't manage programs?
Why are AARP and AMA for Obama health care? I'm an internist and take care of mostly medicare patients. Most have medicare and a secondary insurance. I would have to say 90% of my patients are against this insurance overhaul. In fact some of my patients are even scared to death because they actually like the insurance they have now and don't want it changed. Some of my patients have AARP secondary insurance and they told me they are going to cancel it as soon as they are able and cancel their AARP membership. I'm a member of AMA and strongly considering cancelling my membership to that group that I have had for 17 years. Opinion polls shows that majority are opposed to the current health care reform bill, but the democrats are saying most are for it. What is the deal? I think the bill is not going to pass. I can see a lot of elderly cancelling their AARP membership, and lot of doctors like me cancelling my AMA membership. I hear ads on the radio every 30 minutes by the AARP.
Communists vs. Insurance company lobbyists? Is that what the health care reform became? I live in a house with people registered to several different parties so we have been getting automated phone calls from both sides. yes, reform is needed, but not turning the IRS into the federal security bureau for health insurance. At the same time I have no love of insurance companies, but if anyone has "sold us out" to big corporations, it is the ones who signed on with Obamacare, like AARP, who are given sweetheart deals as a result. I was referring to the labels being thrown about by extremists on either side, which prevents any real substantial, helpful reform coming out of this. The final decisions, defintions, policies, will be made by health and human services bureaucrats, so all the pols can wash their hands of any blame. That is the sobering political reality. As for teh difference between communism and socialism, communism says everything, including your body and mind, is owned by the state, socialism lets you claim title to property and self, but they control what you can do with it and tax you as much as they please. Zoning is an excellent example of socialism, always justified as in the public interest, and always abused by those who seek office to wield such power over others. No matter how well intended or noble in thought, these schemes always get hijacked by petty tyrants, "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely." Hope you never have to find out rationing fears are justified.
If I cancel my AARP membership, will my Medicare Supplemental and Part D insurance remain in force? If not, is there an option to continue the coverage through the United Health underwriter?
Health care for a 57 year old woman? My mother is 57 years old, she doesn't work...my dad is on Medicaid but she is not eligible since she's under 60, my dad's job doesn't offer health insurance, he tried and got her AARP medical insurance plan but it's useless since it's originally meant to be a supplemental plan.... Please help me where can I go to get her health care that's not a gazillion dollars a month?.......thank you
Health Insurance for my 87 year old mother.? My Mom must take three very expensive medications each month, non of which are available in generic form. Lately, she has been tested for Pulmonary Arterial Disease and requires many tests by specialists, but MediCare says for 2008 she has reached her "donut hole" and will have to pay everything out of pocket for the rest of the year! Her meds alone are about $700 per month. AARP has been handling her medical insurance and delivering her meds by mail. By the way, her income is social security and she is widowed. Any suggestions? Can someone also explain the "donut hole" to me so that I am better informed to help her? Thank you to all serious responders.
Insurance money from accident? Well I had an accident in june 2007 and it was the other drivers fault. I just got awarded 50,000 which was the maximum even though doctor bills were well over that amout because it was their maximum. But now the lawyer is say he is going to take a third and keep the rest of the money while he argues with our health insurance company (AARP) about medical bills even though we had incurance for year with them? So my quest is one is it common for a lawyer to hold all money and pay medical bills without you even knowing the amount or approving it? Another is why are we paying back medical bills to an health insurance policy I paid into dont I pay so I dont have to pay medical bills when i get hurt? And 3 I would like to directly nogotiate with all bills myself since I have been trying to meet with my lawyer for 4 months with no appointment set and he has lost my trust. Could I tell him I no longer need him, pay his fees - take the rest of my money then just deal with the billing companys myself? Answers are greatly appreciated I dont want to not pay my medical bills Im just a bit confused why im paying them when i had insurance, and If I do I dont trust my lawyer to talk to them seeing as he said it could take years to get them to a decent amount and the equal length to see any of the settlement ourselfs. Thanks!
Life insurance for 15,000 or more...for someone 65 or older..no health questions.? My father is 69 years old, and wants to take out more life insurance, but is having trouble finding a suitable policy for his needs, colonial penn only wanted to give him 5k in coverage...and he is looking for AT LEAST 15k...He already has life insurance for 15k with aarp/nylife. I was wondering if anyone knew of another life insurance company who could give him at least another 15k, without asking health questions, like aarp/nylife? I told him that I would check on the net to see if I could find something for him, so your help would be appreciated... thanks!:)
I thought private health insurance was the enemy? According to the AARP, Medicare rejects more people than anyone else. In other words, the government denies more claims than the private sector. http://www.aarp.org/community/groups/displayTopic.bt?pageNum=1&groupId=1162&topicId=4635892 From 3/01/2007 to 3/10/2008 Insurer - # of Claims Denied - % of Claims Denied Medicare - 475,566 - 6.85% Aetna - 43,317 - 6.80% Anthem - 11,546 - 4.62% Health Net - 193 - 3.88% CIGNA - 9,060 - 3.44% Humana - 4,142 - 2.90% Coventry - 590 - 2.88% UHC - 30,177 - 2.68% Total number of claims denied by the public (government) sector - 475,566 (6.85%) Total number of claims denied by the private sector - 90,025 - 4.05% So who's the real enemy of the American people, the private sector, which denies 4.05% of claims, or the public sector, which denies 6.85% of claims. For all those who are using the "claims not people" argument, what is the point of paying for health insurance if they are just going to deny your claims. Face it, you just can't accept that your precious government is the problem. @ Proud Texan: Go take a high school economics course, one of the first things they teach with the laws of supply and demand is that higher regulations and taxes INCREASE prices, NOT decrease them.
Is AARP really an unbiased advocacy group? They peddle health insurance for a fee paid by the insurance companies. What's in it for them? http://products.aarp.org/health/ Addison Barry Rand is the new CEO of AARP. He makes $575,000 a year. http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-03-12-aarp_N.htm Barry Rand has also given $4300 to Barack Obama. http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/donor_lookup.php?name=Rand,%20Addison
Why did Obama lie about supporting the health care mandate? On the campaign trail, he vocally opposed it. After getting elected, his thinking has "evolved" and now he supports it. How convenient! http://bulletin.aarp.org/yourhealth/policy/articles/car_insurance_scofflaws_raise_health_mandate_doubt.html
I work in a nursing facility and need to know where I can get phone #'s for medicare co-insurance companies? I work in a nursing facility in the admissions office and need to verify insurance prior to admitting a resident. I need phone #'s for insurance companies which are a supplement to medicare such as AARP, Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Health Care, Bankers Life, Humana Gold, and other insurance companies. Is there a list of these phone #'s? (toll free preferably but if not, other phone #'s will do) I need them to verify insurance coverage for residents.
Do you think AARP will make a fortune off health care package? with all the insurance they will sell to the seniors. yes they are suppose to be non profit but check out the history of the guy that started it and yes they for the higher ups make a fortune for them. AARP started out corrupt and still is and like ACORN gets tons of money from the government
Health inssurance questions? My mom is 58 years old and she has blood pressure and the insurance are turning her down because of blood pressure and over weight. My dad has great benefits from the railroad but once my dad turns 65 and my mom is no longer on his railroad. Well, she could stay on and it would cost her a pretty penny around 600.00 every month. What is the best health insurance? Low cost? Will AARP turn a person down with high blood pressure? Any advice would be great. Please be honest.
Does Medicare + AARP additional insurance pay for the cost of a hospice? My father is 95 and in failing health, to the point where he needs round-the-clock care.or or supervision; Most people in his health condition would be in a nursing home by now, but my family has been paying for private home health care several hours a day, and one of us (adult) children has always arranged to stay with him in his home for the evenings and overnight. However, his health care needs are getting more difficult for us family members to meet. However, he does not have a 'terminal' illness per se (like cancer). However again, he does not require skilled nursing care at this time, and there's been a standing 'no rescuscitation' order for several years now. Would Medicare cover the cost of in-patient hospice care for someone like my father? Dear www.buyb, Thank you for your heartfelt words. Out of concern for you, however, I need to tell you that Medicare Isn't Always There for people, like your parents and my father. Out of fairness to Medicare, let me say that Medicare is stretched to the breaking point--and it is also true that Medicare never promised to 'be there' to meet all of elderly Americans' health care demands. Is 'eldercare' really a national government's responsibility, especially when the costs will be borne by the next generation? That's ethical question all Americans must ponder. What I've learned recently is that my father, once he is no longer able to support his own weight, will qualify for hospice care in his own home--ie., a nurse to monitor him, etc.-- but that this will not qualify him for 'room and board' in a hospice facility. Also, Medicare will limit payment for his home 'hospice' services to 6 months. Good luck to you and your aging loved ones.
47 Million without health care, 31 percent of 1.9 trillion healthcare costs is admin fees. What do you think? Does it bother you that American business thinks that healthcare is only important if it involves the word profit. OR should it all be non-profit. These are some of the facts... * 60 percent of small business owners say that the rising costs of health care amount to a "crisis." * 23 percent of Americans have problems paying medical bills, and millions go bankrupt every year because of medical costs. * 29 percent of Americans say they skipped treatment, tests, or prescriptions because of costs. * 46 million Americans are uninsured. Middle class families are the fastest growing segment. * The average cost of health insurance for an American family now exceeds the yearly income of a minimum wage worker. * Many Americans may be tied to jobs they dislike or stopped from opening their own businesses because of the excessive cost of health care coverage or preexisting medical conditions that deter them from changing insurance providers. (source AARP)
A question concerning health coverage, Please? I am moving to another state and will lose my health coverage. I am currently being treated for an enlarged prostate (no cancer) and am on two medications. I know that this will be a preexisting condition when I apply for insurance but will the fact that I am on an ongoing treatment disqualify me from obtaining insurance? AARP told me that since I was on medications I would not be eligible for their plans. Is this generally true of all plans? Thank You
Could this be one of the several reasons I have? why I dropped my AARP membership a long time ago? In my opinion, AARP has been misleading and misrepresenting Senior Citizens by sleeping with the lobbyists. AARP always claim they can provided health insurance and vehicle insurance cheaper than other companies, which I found entirely untrughtful.
Is AARP trying to establish it's own New World Order? They want our life, health, and auto insurance business. They even send us magazines telling us what to eat and drink.
REPUBLICANS/CONSERVATIVES, What do you think about health-care reform after reading this? Lie #1: President Obama wants to euthanize your grandma!!! The truth: These accusations—of "death panels" and forced euthanasia—are, of course, flatly untrue. As an article from the Associated Press puts it: "No 'death panel' in health care bill."1 What's the real deal? Reform legislation includes a provision, supported by the AARP, to offer senior citizens access to a professional medical counselor who will provide them with information on preparing a living will and other issues facing older Americans.2 If you'd like to read the actual section of the legislation that spawned these outrageous claims (Section 1233 of H.R. 3200) for yourself, here it is. It's pretty boring stuff, which is why the accusations that it creates "death panels" is so absurd. But don't take our word for it, read it yourself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #2: Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan!!! The truth: With reform, choices will increase, not decrease. Obama's reform plans will create a health insurance exchange, a one-stop shopping marketplace for affordable, high-quality insurance options.3 Included in the exchange is the public health insurance option—a nationwide plan with a broad network of providers—that will operate alongside private insurance companies, injecting competition into the market to drive quality up and costs down.4 If you're happy with your coverage and doctors, you can keep them.5 But the new public plan will expand choices to millions of businesses or individuals who choose to opt into it, including many who simply can't afford health care now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #3: President Obama wants to implement Soviet-style rationing!!! The truth: Health care reform will expand access to high-quality health insurance, and give individuals, families, and businesses more choices for coverage. Right now, big corporations decide whether to give you coverage, what doctors you get to see, and whether a particular procedure or medicine is covered—that is rationed care. And a big part of reform is to stop that. Health care reform will do away with some of the most nefarious aspects of this rationing: discrimination for pre-existing conditions, insurers that cancel coverage when you get sick, gender discrimination, and lifetime and yearly limits on coverage.6 And outside of that, as noted above, reform will increase insurance options, not force anyone into a rationed situation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #4: Obama is secretly plotting to cut senior citizens' Medicare benefits!!! The truth: Health care reform plans will not reduce Medicare benefits.7 Reform includes savings from Medicare that are unrelated to patient care—in fact, the savings comes from cutting billions of dollars in overpayments to insurance companies and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.8 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #5: Obama's health care plan will bankrupt America!!! The truth: We need health care reform now in order to prevent bankruptcy—to control spiraling costs that affect individuals, families, small businesses, and the American economy. Right now, we spend more than $2 trillion dollars a year on health care.9 The average family premium is projected to rise to over $22,000 in the next decade10—and each year, nearly a million people face bankruptcy because of medical expenses.11 Reform, with an affordable, high-quality public option that can spur competition, is necessary to bring down skyrocketing costs. Also, President Obama's reform plans would be fully paid for over 10 years and not add a penny to the deficit.12 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read the bill, why don't you? then you can stop accusing me of not reading the bill. What...am i too smart for you? jumping to conclusions that i copied and pasted this. Read the bill and if you haven't then shut up about healthcare reform.

What do you think of all these new taxes included in the health care reform bill? I have the best Congressman, John Campbell. He wrote an article today on just some of the taxes included in the bill (I'll provide a link so you know I'm not making this up). It includes: • A new 3.6% tax on all investment income including capital gains. That means that the capital gains tax rate (including California state tax) will rise to 33.9%. The tax on dividend income will rise from 15% today to 53.7% including California tax. • Additional Medicare tax on self employment income and wages. This removes the current cap on wages subject to this tax and it will effectively move the top income tax rate from 35% to 43.4% within a couple of years. Add in the California tax again and would then be close to a 54% marginal tax rate. I believe that this is the highest of any major industrialized country. But because spending is so high we would still have $1 trillion dollar annual deficits even after this tax. • There is a 2.9% tax on all medical “devices”, which basically means everything used in a doctor’s office or hospital. Including gowns, syringes, and the like. This will increase health care costs for everyone who does not get free government insurance. • The deduction for Medical expenses is currently limited to those expenses that exceed 7.5% or your income. This will be raised to a threshold of 10% of your income. This means that fewer people will get any tax relief from medical expenses they pay for themselves. • There are various taxes on anything a person might do to pay for their own medical expenses. Things like Health Savings Accounts, Cafeteria Plans, and Flexible Savings Accounts are ways for people to save their OWN money for their OWN medical care on a pre-tax basis will be limited and taxed. This is all part of the way that President Obama gets to government run health care by making it illegal or costly to pay for your own care so you have to go to the government. • A 10% tax on tanning services. I call this the “Jersey Shore tax”. This one has to be really upsetting to ‘The Situation’, Snookie, and Pauly D. • A tax on self-insured health plans. This is another penalty on those who try to pay for their own health care. • A new tax on pharmaceutical manufacturers. This will raise the price of drugs for everyone who does not get them from the government for free. • A new tax on “Cadillac” health plans. This is an up to 55% tax on any health insurance that costs over about $800 per month including employee and employer contributions. This tax does not apply if you are a union member or your plan is from AARP or Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. These are major Democratic constituencies and they exempted them. For everyone else, this discourages comprehensive health coverage. Isn’t that what the President says he is trying to achieve? Like most of what the President says, his actions are not even close to his words. • There is a new tax on all 'for-profit' health insurance companies (except for a few favored ones). This will also raise the costs of premiums for everyone not getting free care from the government. • If you don’t buy health insurance (as dictated acceptable by a new federal czar), you will be fined up to 2.5% of your income even if you pay all of your medical expenses yourself. If your company does not provide said health insurance to all employees, the company will be fined up to $2,000 per employee. http://campbell.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2789:march-19-2010-healthcare-tax-increases&catid=38:laptop-report&Itemid=73 61% of Americans (including both Democrats and Republicans) are against the bill, those for it the majority have no idea about the taxes included in it. The 2300 page bill was finally released to Republicans TODAY and will be voted on in less than 48 hours.
Has an insurance company turned you down for coverage if you have high blood pressure? My cousin recently told me that his mother at the age of 60, and unemployed, was turned down for health insurance some years back, because one of the first questions the agent she was applying with asked, "Do you have high blood pressure?" When she said yes, the agent said they could not cover her due to the condition. She was of course, not old enough for Medicare, so she was without medical insurance until she could get Medicare. That lack of health insurance ended up being the death of her, because she was not able to affordable treatment on her own and by the time she did have Medicare and a supplement, her serious condition had progressed to the critical stage. How sad. Her husband 65, was already drawing Medicare with AARP as a supplement. He was unable to continue paying the extremely high premiums of the company insurance he had at his job, once he retired. Anyone with a similiar situation, or know someone this has happened to? This incident happened over 15 yrs ago.
Why does GOP insist on ling to Seniors about Health Care - why do Seniors continue to listen? After lie after lie after lie - are Seniors stupid? Death Panels’ Hypocrisy: RNC Health Insurance Provider Promotes End-Of-Life Counseling Over the summer, one of the GOP’s loudest complaints against health care legislation was a provision offering senior citizens Medicare reimbursement for end-of-life counseling. Republicans claimed it would create so-called “death panels” or urge seniors citizens to die. RNC Chairman Michael Steele “endorsed this type of rhetoric, and on July 28, the RNC put out research document claiming that the government would “dictate” Americans’ “end-of-life care.” But it has been noted that Cigna, the RNC’s health insurance provider, also urges beneficiaries to think about end-of-life services. Cigna’s website has a page called “Care at the End of Life,” which covers topics such as how to talk with “loved ones” about “end-of-life choices” and whether to stop life-prolonging treatment: It’s unclear whether the RNC’s insurance plan covers these end-of-life consultations, and neither Cigna nor the RNC replied to inquiries. But nevertheless, the RNC’s insurance provider has posted information on its website advising beneficiaries about the complicated questions that accompany decisions at the end of someone’s life. There is nothing objectionable about this planning, which has been endorsed by Democrats, Republicans like Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA), and the AARP. But this type of advice is exactly what the GOP fear-mongered about this summer. As FactCheck.org explained: What the bill actually provides for is voluntary Medicare-funded end-of-life counseling. In other words, if seniors choose to make advance decisions about the type of care and treatments they wish to receive at the end of their lives, Medicare will pay for them to sit down with their doctor and discuss their preferences. There is no requirement to attend regular sessions, and there is absolutely no provision encouraging euthanasia. Recently, the RNC has been urging lawmakers to support the anti-choice Stupak amendment, which would not only ban women on the federal exchange from using federal funds for abortion, but could bar employer-sponsored plans from offering the coverage. However, Politico reported this week that the RNC health care plan under Cigna has coverage for elective abortion services. Upon hearing the news, the RNC quickly opted-out of the abortion coverage, although its money is still indirectly subsidizing other women’s abortions. What will be the next GOP lie (their next statement) and why are Seniors so gulible? The GOP plays these folks & the weak-minded like a fiddle. They lie! Hey Snowman - blowing more lies - NO SUCH report from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. I will be happy to review link for such a report - there are NOT ANY. You lie. The report from AMA that you link too are regarding Fradulent claims from insurers - which should NOT be paid and can account for savings - MISREPRESENTATION. You lie, again. The other report you reference from the AMA (who support the current bills) & link to are for FRAD claims from insurors & should NOT be paid resulting in savings - MISREPRESENTATION - you lie again, Snowman - you earn your name. With a name like 'Snowman' you like laughing at these idiots as much as beck and the rest of us do.
Can I get a complete Health check up at a hospital, I'm 68 would like to find if I have any health proablems.? I would like to find out if I have any health problem's that I must address. I'm 68 Male with a good health record. My father passed away with a heart attack when he was 58. I'm on Medicare and I have a AARP as a supplement Insurance.
Any ideas of insurance company for 73 yr old lady? Basically she just wants to cover burial costs and leave a bit to family afterward. I'm looking at getting her into AAA or AARP and then having her join group policy there??? There are previous health issues that would drive premium way up as individual? Anyone got any other serious ideas what might work for her?
Do you have medicare without a supplemental or advantage plan for the other 20%? How much will it really cost if You don't have that extra. I'm not really sure how to understand just what that 20% consists of. I have AARP out of fear but they have raised what they take out by $10.92 a month and increased the take out of medicare med insurance by $4.40 a month and decreased they medicare payment by $5.00 a month. People seem to think medicare is free when you reach 65 because of all the years you put into the account but for us they take out 226.20 for health insurance and AARP cost us $290.59 so that's a total of $516.79 a month. and that half of our medicare check. Our savings will soon be gone and now we have to face the increase in every other bill in the coming year. So little information to go on. I heard more about switching to digital TV. Lona, In what state do you live. Medicare pays all but $912. for the first 60 days of hospitalization Skilled nursing facility -first 20 days Medicare pays all approved amounts Blood first 3 pints -medicare pays nothing -100% additional amounts Medical services you pay medicare $110. for the first Medicare approved amounts. Remainder 80% or 50% for outpatient Part B excess charges above Medicare approved amounts $0. Home health care Skilled care medicare pays !00% If someone goes in for heart surgery and the bill is $60,000. as is in most cases with all they say they pay it's hard to figure out just what your actual bill will be, figuring in hospital, doctors, medication, and all the many others who will be examining you. Just when that 20% kicks in.
Now that AMA & AARP have reviewed & approved the House HC Reform Bill-will it pass Senate? AMA Supports House Bills to Make Health Reform a Reality H.R. 3962 and H.R. 3961 would go a long way toward making the health system better for patients and physicians HOUSTON, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Medical Association (AMA) today announced support for concurrent passage of H.R. 3962 and H.R. 3961, U.S. House of Representatives health system reform bills. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20081209/AMALOGO) "The time to make health system reform a reality is now," said J. James Rohack, AMA president. "These two bills were introduced together, and they need to be passed together. Both are essential to achieving meaningful health system reform this year." "On balance, H.R. 3962, The Affordable Health Care for America Act, is consistent with our principles of pluralism, freedom of choice, freedom of physician practice and universal access. It will significantly expand health insurance coverage to Americans to empower patient and physician decision making; institute meaningful insurance market reforms; make substantial investments in quality; institute prevention and wellness initiatives; provide incentives to states that adopt certificate of merit and/or early offer liability reforms, and reduce administrative burdens." "H.R. 3962 is not the perfect bill, and we will continue to advocate for changes, but it goes a long way toward expanding access to high-quality affordable health coverage for all Americans, and it would make the system better for patients and physicians," Dr. Rohack said. "This is not the last step but the next step toward health system reform. We will remain actively engaged with patients, physicians, Congress and the administration to ensure that the final bill results in marked improvements to our health system." http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS219747+05-Nov-2009+PRN20091105
Are Rush and other repubs liars for saying that the healthcare bill, just endorsed by the AARP, hurts medicare? OR did they just not read the bill???? From AARP.com: AARP, the 40-million-member association of older Americans, today announced its endorsement of the sweeping House health care reform bill. The organization’s backing is seen as a major boost for one of the bills that aims to overhaul the nation’s health care, and it comes as Democratic lawmakers are preparing to bring the measure to the floor for a vote. AARP says it supports the House bill over other proposals because the measure does more to lower drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries, strengthen Medicare and bar insurance companies from denying people coverage because of their health or age. The bill also would lower premiums for Americans ages 50 to 64 who have to buy insurance in the private market. The AARP endorsement is important because older Americans have been on the front lines in the health care battle, with insurance companies and lobbying groups spending millions in the past months to influence their opinions, sometimes generating misinformation about how health care reform would affect Medicare. Today’s endorsement marks the first time in this legislative battle that AARP has put its full weight behind a comprehensive health care reform package. In the coming days, AARP will be educating its members about the health care reform package through its publications, paid advertising and more than five million calls and e-mails to its grassroots activists.
What do Obama supporters think of his latest lie about AARP endorsing his death plan? How can anyone believe what Obama says at all? He has lied about everything he's ever said. This is a FACT that he lied about AARP endorsing his health plan. He didn't even flinch about it. A pathological liar is all that he is. Read the bill. He has lied about everything that's in it. Did you all know that it says on one of those lines in that monstrosity that it is ILLEGAL to carry private insurance? I love exposing naive people. Yes, I am speaking about the ones that still think "he's a great guy". At least his numbers are dwindling ever so quickly. He is hanging himself and he's got his nuts in a wad! HA HA HA. Black and white people. You can't blame this one on Bush, or conservatives, or racists!
Can I buy a life insurance policy on my mother without her knowing it? My mother is convinced she can't get a life insurance policy (just for burial purposes) because she has degenerative disc disease and that it would be too expensive. I know people who have heart conditions (including relatives) who died and their family had life insurance for them. She has no life ins on her but my father has it on him. All my siblings including myself have gotten into arguments with her because we don't want to have to foot all the bills after she has passed away and we equally don't think my father should take out a loan to pay for her burial. I've seen these commercials with AARP through New York Life stating that regardless of age or health condition you can get a $10,000 policy. Are there such policies out there and can I get a policy on her without her knowing about it? I want to do this to have a peace of mind and don't want to see my father go through all these stressful things when she passes away. Do I need her SS# to do this?
Is this why the insurance companies are so fired up for "Obama care"? I figured they know they can insure 37 million, 30 million or is it 47 million they keep throwing out different numbers, but they will get more business. just like the pharmicutical companies who are burning up $120 million in commercial (through PHARMA) time to support the bill. They gain millions of new customers to sell the expesive drugs they have and can still sell the "$4 a holler", 3rd world imported drugs. Then the healthcare facilities are going to get paid for eveyone even the "undocumented" people. That's why they gave the House and Senate $500 million last year^. So it looks like this "public option" will be done by the insurance companies. Look at AARP. President Obama tested the waters five mnonths ago and said they were "onboard" with the bill, then the backlash and the cEO said that wasn't true, now they are bad. They stand to make billions hawking that insurance they are connected with. Considering the lobbyists donated $3.2 bilion* to the House and Senate members last year could this just be a payoff for years of donations? much of the money is not reported as the big lobbyists that work only 20%* of the time as a lobbyists don't report. So that is what I think is the reason they are "on board" with the health care deal, but may be wrong. between them, the insurance and healthcare, they donated $700 milllion plus last year and more this year.* *opensecrets.org
If we have lower life expectancy and higher birth mortality rates at nearly twice the price? of health care in other developed nations, EU, etc then why do so many insist that we have the best health care in the world- yeah, specialists for the wealthy and those who have or can afford very good health insurance? My source is AARP- Bulletin. There are numerous other sources. Drug and health care corporations are ripping us a new one every time we pay these inflated rates in the name of a free market for a life and death necessity. I'm not for socialized health care but affordable health care for people who work or retire early- after 55, for example, due to illness, etc. Stephen, your answer implies intellectual laziness at the outset- do you really believe that anyone who gets ill becomes so because they are either lazy or inactive? This may be true of some but surely not all by any stretch. That's just plain silly putty. Correction- "universal".
How could anyone actually trust anything about Obama or his administration? (lots of links)? Lots of opinions here about Obama, his past, and his socialist Health Care Program, along with the Nazi-esque way’s he is trying to force this on people and lie about it. I spent the day reading all about this, all over, Got a lot of links here, tried to avoid Foxnews, as that is automatically discounted. Most of the blogs I haven’t heard of before, youtube is just video, and even got some abcnews stuff, which is as liberal as it gets (excect MSNBC). Based on the following FACTS (key word here), why should I, or any other person, NOT think that Obama is looking for a government takeover of healthcare, and why should I, or anyone, trust that he isn’t looking to be a dictator? He has a history of lies, exaggerations, hiding who he is, spinning stories, and fixing results. I didn’t even go to the Rev. Wright, the Birth Certificate, or Bill Ayers issues. Obama himself discussed eliminating private health care insurance. [google: “Uncovered Video: Obama Explains How His Health Care Plan Will 'Eliminate' Private Insurance.” ] – Just too many links to actually copy and paste, makes a better point if you see this one for yourself. What is wrong with the Republicans not supporting health care, thought they were big business? Insurance guys are going to make a mint, even AARP could sell billions. You got the 12 million on Advantage program, that are on fixed incomes, getting kicked off. The drug guys sell $100 billion in drugs a year and will give up $10 billion up front, why, because they will have tens of millions of new customers that are on government insurance ant they can sell the expensive drugs. they will also sell the 3rd world $4 a holler drugs. They are also spending $120 in commercial time to promote this thing. The health care guys have donated $500 million in 2008 to the HOuse and Senate members and expect to make out great. Granted the lobbyists and corps donated $3.2 billion in 2008 and will donate that much plus a cost of living 105 Raise this year. So why are the Republicans against this as all the above will make some serious money and they are big business? *opensecrets.org Hey look at the site opensecrets.org and you will see what they have been donating. Even the law firms and attorneys donated $233 million last year. If you don't think they are going to rack up then you don't understand the system. Go back and look at the 2003 Medicare Prescription Drug bill. For an extra $50 million the insurance companies got out of an annual $100 billion obligation. Funny thing about that deal is the CBO stated the ten year cost would be $500 billion voer a ten year period, but after signing it they came back adn revised the number to $1.04 trillion. That's being off 100%! For those of you that don't undestand this go to the site and just put in an industry and you will see how much they pay or donate. The medical facilities are looking for anyone legal or illegal to be paid for.
The AARP has it right on healthcare...? what do you think??? Cost is at the root of this problem. Health care is expensive and getting more so every day. The health care system is a maze of paperwork and confusing charges that make it impossible for an ordinary family to understand what they have to pay to get the care they need. The United States spends $1.9 trillion a year on care - some $6,280 for every man, woman and child in the country. 31 percent of this is expenditure is wrapped up in administration costs... far more than any other country. A bureaucracy created by insurance companies to increase their bottom line. Health care expenditures are 16 percent of the U.S. economy, well above what any other industrialized nation spends on health care. And these nations make health care available to all their citizens. Yet, when we compare health outcomes-measurements of health such as infant mortality or life expectancy-the U.S. trails these nations.
My mother and step-father passed away 2months apart in the state of N.J.? The house or deed is in my mothers name only.... i want to know does it goes under my step-father estate automatically or does it go under my mothers estate because he never had the deed transfer into his name before he died. He made me beneficary under his life insurance with AARP but because he didn't answer the questions correctly in regards to his health i was refunded the premiums. His brothers and sisters want my mothers house because they are under the impression that it was his because my mother hasn't work for years but don't know that the house is in my mothers name only. I got a attorney and under his guidence i was made administrator because they both didn't have a will. My parents were married for 35yrs and i am 36 now and i don't want everything to go to my uncles and aunt when my parents have raised me all of my life and when i got older i have stayed in their lives to look after them due to health issues. I'm so stressed b/c iam alone in this no brothers or sisters.

Do you know where they both stand? Capital Gains Tax - McCain: 0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does NOT propose any changes in existing home sales income tax. Obama: 28% on profit from ALL home sales. In other words, if you sell your home & make a profit. you WILL pay 28% of your gain in taxes. If you are heading to retirement & want to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from selling your home WILL go to taxes. This WILL adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income. Dividend Tax - McCain: 15% (NO change) Obama: 39.6% In other words, if you have ANY money invested in the stock markets, IRA, Mutual Funds, College Funds, Life Insurance, Retirement Accounts or ANYTHING that pays or reinvests dividends, "YOU" WILL now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes IF obama becomes president. Experts predict that "Higher tax rates on dividends & capital gains WILL crash the stock markets & will do NOTHING to cut the deficit." Income Tax - McCain: (no changes) single making 30K - tax $4500 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K - tax $9000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250 Obama: (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts) Single making 30K - tax $8400 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Under obama, taxes will almost double Inheritance Tax - McCain: 0% (no change - Bush repealed this tax) Obama: Restore the inheritance tax Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches & homes that have been in their familes for generations because they could NOT afford to pay the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to their loved ones will ONLY lose them to these taxes. New Taxes Proposed - McCain: 0 Obama: New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes, New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity), New taxes on retirement accounts & last but not least, New taxes to pay for "socialized medicine" so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third world countries!!! NOTHING IS FREE, SOMEONE ALWAYS HAS TO PAY!!! All of this can be verified by these........ www.money.cnn.com/news/specials/election/2008/index.html www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.taxes.html www.elections.foxnews.com/?s=proposed+taxes www.bulletin.aarp.org/youworld/politics/articles/mccain_obama_offer_different_visions.com http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/candidates/barack_obama http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/candidates/john_mccain So, I want to know why obama supporters get so angry when they are shown FACTS? Audrey: Like what? Did you look the information up? Barb: Then prove me wrong. Many of the facts that I have found come from the "left" media CNN. Are you telling me THEY don't have their facts right? If so, then why are they left? jim, twa: That is such a pathetic & typical Democratic comment you just proved my point. McCain is NOT stalling, he IS doing his JOB. This is the SECOND time in recent weeks that McCain has put the U.S. first. The first time was when Hurricane Ike was coming in. But all obama thinks of is himself. Then of course he wouldn't want to do anything that would bring into the for front his involvment in being in the number 2 spot feeding at the trough of Fannie & Freddie would he? Just ANOTHER FACT I thought I would share!! What Democrats need to remember is that CONGRESS makes the laws & the President can ONLY do with what he is given. The Democratic Congress is NOT doing anything so as to make the Republicans look incompetent since it is an election year, when in FACT it is the DEMOCRAT led Congress that is NOT doing their job because THEY are incompetent. Your Horns Are Showing: You have GOT to be kidding!! The right is paranoid? The Democrats have leaped off the edge. They are sending hate mail to a Maine news anchor saying she is trying to look like Governor Palin & sending subliminal messages to viewers to get them to vote Republican! That is beyond paranoid, that is just plain INSANE!!! B Star: NOBODY is talking about race but YOU. As for New Orleans, look at YOUR governor & mayor. THEY left those people there by NOT doing their job & NOT using the funds provided SEVERAL times to fix & reinforce the levies. Hurricane Katrina was an act of God, NOT the Federal Government. I'm not upset in the least. There is ALWAYS things about people that we don't like, I am not different, but I have yet to find ANYONE who supports obama who can tell me why & what has he done in his 173 days to qualify him for the presidency. I don't want regurgitated campaign garbage either. I want "REAL" reasons & "REAL" experience & "REAL" qualifications. Annalies: are you serious? Higher taxes will NOT get more people health care. Who do you think will be paying for this universal health care? When businesses are taxed & MORE people are unemployed, who will they tax to pay for it then? You cannot simply raise taxes on people to get more money, because sooner or later, the people will have NO money, NO house, NO job, NO food, NO NOTHING!! Then what? Universal health care will no longer be there because there will be NOBODY left to tax to pay for it! uneyk: Do you honestly believe what you wrote? "WITH THE PEOPLE"? What does that mean? He was a "Community Organizer". what is that? Did he organize monday night bingo, community bake sales & rummage sales? WHAT is a community organizer? There are scarecrows in Kansas who know as much about foreign affairs, government & this country than obama does. What country have you ever been in where they have changed their official language to suit ANYONE but the people who make up that country? If I move to France, I should speak french, because THAT is their OFFICIAL language. If I move to Norway, I should speak Norwegian, because THAT is their OFFICIAL language. NO country should lose their OWN identity or language to make immigrants happy or make it easier for illegals. ENGLISH IS the "OFFICIAL" language of the United States & it ALWAYS should be & WILL be. Whiteside: NOW fifeldity matters to you? NOW? Did it bother you when Clinton did it? or how about Edwards or the multitude of other Democrats. Did it bother you THEN?? I'm sure it didn't, you were all just as blind, deaf & dumb to all of that as you are about facts concerning Obama. Which candidate do you support? The following is the Candidate comparison. Take these questions seriously.? 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION JOHN McCain BARAK OBAMA The questions below are listed in McCain's and Obama web sites and other sites that was approved by both. The list of questions will have a yes or no or another anwer particilar to that question. Both candidates answered the question and they are listed. To keep it simple the first answer is McCain's the second answer is Obama. Then ask yourself the same questions and if their answer is how you would answer then vote for that candidate. Please know the issues and not because they are cute, black, good speaker, or because your momma and daddy like them or even your best friend… Get a group of people over tonight. Ask these questions to each one…then grade their answer too. Don't listen exclusively to Fox or CNN or people with the loudest voice. Know the candidate you are supporting... here is how!. Take a sheet of paper and write down ( or copy and paste) the following questions. If you don’t know what the question means ASK SOMEONE or if the question does not affect you, (it may in the future)… then ask yourself who would it affect – then go ask them that question? Then vote the candidate.
