BWI Airport: do you have the option of whether you want the full body scan or the metal detector? My first question was answered awhile ago, but this is my next one. If you travel, will you submit to a full body scan? So, this question has been bothering me lately, mainly because I got back from Paris not long ago and traveled through Chicago O'Hare, and got to see the controversy up close and personal. They had two body scan machines and I decided to "submit" to one. It lasted about 15 seconds and I was done. I felt no more violated than the pat down I got at Germany's Munich Airport. I really don't see the controversy, but, if your traveling or if you've been given the choice, will/did you take it? Why or why not?

They can see through clothes and underwears for "security" measures. Sometimes the scans are used just as secondary check, when they find it the need to use them. But other times, it is the main check they do. They said the face is being blurred out, and the people looking at scans is not actually on your side. As muslims, what do you think of such procedures? Reason for Airport Full Body Scan's? Now the media is spinning the demand that all airports be immediately equipped with Full body scanning machines. Now why is that? There are ample court cases that declare that citizen should not have any expectation of protection from a government. Why call for these devices now when only 3-5 years ago the liberals were (get this) declaring them to be violations of privacy especially woman's privacy (have you read the full disclosure of female medical records in the Health care bills?) Why these devices now: I could only think of these reasons: 1) Reid, Kerry, Pelosi, Dodd, and the Kennedy family hold vast amounts of controlling stock in companies that make these devices. 2) William Clinton needs a ready employment screening method to recruit young women to service as interns, agents, escorts, companions on his Wm F Clinton Library and Influence Peddling Company --- Saudi Princes are reported to like wholesome Midwest girls/women. Husband finally receiving a full body scan today...How do the results work? He was told he will find out the results right away. That the scan will take an hour and half and he will walk with results papers. But I am wondering if they are like.. Why don't doctors just give everyone a heart scan or full body scan? I understand they are expensive, but if they became routine, like you had one every or every other year, the machines would be paid for extremely quickly. If everyone had one, we could catch things such as heart disease and cancer in their treatable early stages thus saving even more money. So why isn't this a routine practice? I understand that it could be laborious to read the scans, but it could be done. Especially with heart scans. It is a ten minute test with less than eight images taken. Women get yearly mammograms, why can't this be added in as a yearly preventative test over a certain age? Andrew, currently without insurance coverage at all a heart scan is only $500. If they became routine, had co-pays and the like, the machine would be paid for extremely quickly. It would then just be a routine cost, no more than a mammogram. What is going on with my body? I have been treated for anxiety even put in the hospital and had a full body scan. Tests were all normal but I still feel terrible at times shaky, heart feels like its acting funny, feel light headed. I just dont understand whats going on has anyone felt like this before???
What are the best scans/tests to check for cancer/abnormality anywhere in the body? Full body CAT/CT?? Would these be the best scans to do once every few years just to make sure? What about just regular chest x-rays? Would blood tests even show abnormalities? Since many cancers are asymptomatic especially in otherwise young/healthy people, and I want to be 100% sure I'm okay, and if there's something wrong to detect it in its earliest stages, what tests would be the most beneficial? Would a FULL BODY CAT or CT scan do the trick? From what I've heard, they're VERY expensive and dangerous radiation wise, but VERY effective. I have excellent health insurance, so with that into consideration as well, would this be my best bet?
Going for skin scanning tomorrow to make sure melanoma is not in other areas. What should I expect? What does the doctor due during the full body scan? Does he remove any more moles that look like they can be melanoma? I just had surgery done two weeks ago on my arm to remove the melanoma and upon removing the stiches the doctor will due the scan. I am just worried that there will be more affected areas. I had a mole removed last year and it came back recently. Can that be another spot of melanoma?
what type of security do you pass thru when taking a cruise? Is it the same as an airport full body scan and lugage x ray. Drug sniffing dogs anything like that.
Where can I find good info about brain tumors? Is there someone online that can help me read an MRI? My grandmother has a large brain tumor and we don't know if it's malignant or not. She had a full body scan today, but the MRI won't be read until monday. However, I have the MRI on a CD. Is there a website with more information about this? Is there some online forum or service willing to help read MRI's?
MRI scan and pregnancy? about 6 weeks after possible conception I had an MRI full body scan. Would they have seen anything if i was pregnant? I told them I wasn't. And i have regular periods and everything. tho i am still worried :S
What hot spots on a bone scan may mean? I went in for a bone scan for my foot to check for a stress fracture. They did a full body scan, just to be thorough. Strangely enough, they found a hot spot on one rib and one on my skull. After the bone scan results came back, the orthopedist I saw for the foot issue had some x-rays done on my rib and skull to look for any obvious signs of bone cancer. All X-rays were negative on the rib/skull, i.e. no fractures seen and no other "abnormalities". My question is what the heck may be the cause of those hot spots? I feel perfectly fine health-wise. FYI: I'm scheduling an appointment with my family doctor at the advice of the ortho. Better safe than sorry when it gets down to it. Thanks!
Just got a full body Ultrasound done .....? Hey guys just got a full body ultrasound done. The girl scanned all my tummy, my sides and my chest area. Just wondering why she would scan my chest area? Also, I asked her did she find cysts on my ovaries and I know she can't say but she just said that she took loads of pics for the doctor to look at. Just made me a little worried. I had to have a full bladder which was tough!! I was complaining of low back pain and pain in my thighs which the doctor tought might of been cysts. Can anyone who has been through this give me some information on what she did to put my mind at ease and why did she scan the chest area? (just underneath my bra)
Why no consistency on airport security? I flew twice last week. Two different airlines. The security at a large airport here in Florida was rushed and rather lax. The other was a smaller airport in upstate NY. The security was stricter. Full body scans, scanning of drivers liscense . If you had on a sweatshirt, sweater, or any double layered clothing it had to come off. So why is security not consistent?
Why play sick when you're about to be laid off? I'm from Europe and can't understand why somebody in America would do this. I saw it in a TV series where a woman was expecting to be laid off and this prompted her to seek expensive diagnostic attention, even though she was perfectly healthy. The doc even agreed and awrded her a totally unecessary full body scan. Why would she do this?

She bruises instantly at the touch of a finger, and the bruises disappear overnight. Just sleeping on her side makes her wake up in the morning with a swollen face, huge black eyes, etc. She also has severe joint pain. The doctors and specialists (pediatric hematologist) are baffled! Platelet count, organ sizes, CAT scan, full body X-ray, vital signs are all normal. Child abuse and hemophilia are ruled out. They tested for Von Willebrand but the results take a week to come back. Please, any suggestions will help!
CT Scan - Contrasting Materials? About 2 years ago, I had a full body CT scan and bone scan - due to being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. They made me drink a huge jug of clear awful liquid. I don't remember being injected with the burning iodine. After the CT scan was over, the stuff I drank made me really sick, diahhrea all day & night - and a burning throat from drinking the liquid that lasted 3 days. I came down with a cold because my system was so depleted from the awful drink. I need to get another CT scan. I don't want to drink the liquid again because I don't want to be that sick again. My doctor did not want to do it without any Contrast materials. She said they can't see anything without the Contrast materials. I don't mind being injected with something if need be. Are there other contrasting materials they can use? What about a CT scan without contrasting materials ? They are checking my body for tumors, so thats what they need to look for. Does the Contrast drink really make a difference?
PET Scan Question? I have to have a full body PET Scan. 1. Do I have to take out all of my piercings? 2. How long will this take? 3. Is this a claustrophobic scan like an MRI? Are ultrasounds and CT scans the same thing? There was a flyer in the local newspaper offering body "scans" for $500. Is that the same as a CT scan? Is an ultrasound useful full body?
What would be the practicalities/impracticalities of getting a CAT scan at a yearly doctor's check up? When you go to the dentist, you often get a yearly x-ray of all your teeth. You often hear about people who get conditions that end up killing them, and that if the doctor have found out about it sooner, they could have been saved. Why don't people get something like a yearly full-body CAT scan? Would that be advantageous? Not really? Although they're expensive, if they were made cheaper, but people got them on a yearly basis, it seems like those who run it wouldn't necessarily loose out on money for making them cheaper. One time I was knocked unconscious and found out that an ambulance brought me straight to the ER, not to mention that they had cut some good clothes with those cutters that they have. I was given a CT scan, then sent to the intensive care unit for a few days, then got another one. The second time they gave me some nasty smoothie to drink before putting me through again, so that may push some away from getting a yearly scan if they did start doing that. I don't know if it would be a good or bad idea for something like that. I'm just curious about the subject. What would be the reasons to have one yearly, vs why you wouldn't want to or why it'd be unnecessary?
My father has damaged nerves in his lower legs & pain in his feet, can anyone suggest types of medication? He is currently taking gabapentin and painkillers and has recently had a full body scan, he has tried accupunture but nothing seems to be working and it seems to be getting worse, he says he feels as if the backs of his legs are constantly moving and his feet feel like they have lumps in them and they are always cold, would like to know if anyone suffers with this condition and whether there is a known medication for him to take as it is ruining my his life
I wore an earring backwards in public by mistake. If you had seen me, would you have thought I was an idiot? I have only had my ears done a couple of months, and I know I am really supposed to wear earrings all the time for 6 months. Trouble is I was going to hospital for a full body scan so I had to take them out. I left putting them back in until I got home, so I could clean them and my ears first (i did not want to risk getting crap in the holes). The left one went went in like a charm, but the right one would only go half way through the hole. I tried a thinner pair of studs but it would still only go half way. I tried putting it through the back of the hole instead and it went in easily. I meant to turn it round after a couple of hours - but I forgot, and went to the shops wearing one of my earrings back to front. If you had noticed, would you have thought I was an idiot, would you have guessed what had happed, or would you have thought it was some kind of fashion statement? I feel really embarrassed about it, that is why i ask!
Jusi finished I131 treatment, I feel terrible, gained 20lbs+ in last 2 weeks, will synthroid help me shed lbs? I recently had a total thyroidectomy and 2 weeks later I131 radiation treatment. I have gained 20 pounds plus since the surgery and I feel terrible. I cannot begin hormone treatment until full body scan here in a few days, but the oncologist that prescribed it will not monitor or regulate how much I need. He prescribed 100 mcq once daily. My metabolism is virtually come to a stand still, I feel fatigued and nauseteous. My endocrinologist can't see until mid December. I've gained a ton of weight and none of these doctors have addressed the issue which I have brought up repeatedly. I guess my question really is will the hormone take the weight off because I have read that it is virtually impossible to lose weight after a total throidectomy. All the doctors like to pass the buck when it comes to my post radiation treatment. My back hurts from the rapid weight gain and I feel uncomfortable in my own body. Is there any hope for weight loss?
