Aflac Medical Insurance Knowledge Base
Do I really need AFLAC or other supplemental Insurance? For years I've seen these goofy commercials with the squaking duck, Yogi Berra and other scatter-brained males. A friend finally told me about AFLAC insurance that he has and how it pays for preventative medical tests, etc and for costly situations like cancer, etc. But, I thought all of that was covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield? Do I really need insurance beyond my standard employee health insurance? AFLAC must be pretty successful to pay for all those TV commercials. But, I only know one person (a hypochondriac, in my mind) who has this insurance. Are there competitors to AFLAC? Other options? Thanks.
Can you deduct AFLAC Insurance payments on your tax return? I paid $1134.12 in AFLAC Insurance payments and $296.40 in Dental Insurance payments and I was wondering if I could deduct this from my tax return as Medical Insurance payments? I dont want to get into trouble by doing this if I cant. It would help me out alot though on my return :) EDIT: I have Accident, Intensive Care, Cancer, Short Term Disability, and Special Event (Hospital). I know someone just said I cant do Disability, but could I do the others?
Is it legal for my mom to still have me on her Aflac insurance? (Kinda Long Sorry)? Hello all, I'm not sure if you all know about the insurance Aflac, but my mother has had me, my younger sister, her, and my step dad on that insurance every since I was 15 years old. I am 21 now about to turn 22 this summer, and the other day I called her and talked to her on the phone to tell her about a minor accident I had recently had in my car ( I'm okay), and she joked that I should have went through emergency because she would have gotten paid by Aflac. I found this kind of odd because my mother and I DO NOT get along that well. Every since I've turned 18, my boyfriend has been helping me take care of myself, and she doesn't give me financial help what so ever. She even claimed me on her taxes after I turned 18 without asking me, even though I asked her not too because she doesn't do anything for me! I really do try to get along with her and talk to her a lot, because I don't want to be regret not spending time with her before she passes away, but she just isn't treating me fairly (in my opinion). I am a full time student, I am not her dependent, I have not lived with her in over three years, and I think she may have put on her forms that I still live with her. I'm sorry to rant, but I guess my question is does she need my signature to still be on her Aflac insurance? (Because if so, I'm pretty sure she may have forged my signature.) If so, is there any legal way to ask her to take me off, because if I got into a major accident, I know for a fact she would not help me with any medical bills (she hasn't in the past). Any insight would help. Thanks for your time. I'd really appreciate any answers. :-)
HSA Medical Insurance? I am thinking of going with an insurance plan that qualifies for a HSA. The plan has no maternity but will cover mom and baby if there are complications. My AFLAC guy wants to sell me a policy that give you money for a hospital stay and having a baby qualifies for the plan. We plan to get pregnant later this year, do you think that i am crazy to go without maternity and use the aflac to help pay for things?
does anyone out there have AFLAC? it's a secondary insurance. AFLAC IS A SECONDARY INSURANCE PLAN THAT YOU CAN USE IF YOU ARE OUT ON MEDICAL LEAVE. I PURCHASED MINE IN SEPTEMBER 2007. AND I WENT TO THE EYE DOCTOR TO GET MY ANNUAL CHECK UP. SO MY EYE DOCTOR PUT ME ON DISABILITY AND I FILED MY CLAIM WITH AFLAC. THEY DENIED ME BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT IT WAS PRE EXISTING. I WAS DIANOISED WITH COMBINED CATARACTS IN APRIL 2007. WHEN I SIGNED UP WITH AFLAC THE REP DID NOT TELL ANYONE IN OUR OFFICE THAT THEY DON'T PAY OUT FOR PRE EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS. IWANT TO APPEAL THIS. WHAT CAN I PUT IN MY APPEAL LETTER TO GET MY DIABILITY BENEFITS PAID. I HAVE BEEN OFF WORK SINCE MAY. MY SURGERY IS SCHEDULED MID AUGUST 2008. I NEED SOME HELP
Disabled with no medical insurance. Advice please.? My doctors state I'm disabled to work. My husband makes too much for me to get welfare, SSI , and SSD requires work credits that I don't have. I worked well over 20 jobs in my life. Most ended badly. I'm just too frustrated to keep trying. I'm worried about my health. I looked into getting Aflac, BlueCross and Geisinger gold. My husband says we just can't afford it with all of our other bills. I feel helpless. Any suggestions? My husbands job offers insurance as well but it's not free. It's the same price as the other insurance companies. @Tigg I'm sorry to inform you. It does have requirements. SSI My husband needs to be making under 1100 a month for. SSD I need to have work credits. I been out of work now for 5 years. My credits are gone. :( I called every lawyer in my phone book. They all said that they can't help me because I don't meet the state requirements.
What insurance agencies provide supplemental unemployment insurance? Hi. I have learned recently that my company will be going out of business and I will be let go in about 2 months. I need to find a company that will pay supplementary unemploymnet insurance (on top of what the state will give me) to cover my expenses. This should be an insurance benefit that doesn't require a medical reason for unemployment. I already have that through aflac. Any help is appreciated. I live in NJ, if that helps answer the question. @byron m, I was going to use the time to go back to school and pick up some new skills. It would take about a year to finish. But I wouldn't have any fewer bills while I was in school. I needed something to carry me after state benefits ran out. However, if this policy is something no agency carries, I will have to think of something else.
Short term disability insurance help? I'm scheduled to have a hip replacement in May. My question is this: is there any type of insurance (i.e.- AFLAC) that can help with some of the medical expenses that I will incur or even help with the lost income? I've heard of short term disability insurance but am not familiar with the particulars. Please note: I have a husband who has a decent job and am not looking for government assistance. Any help is appreciated. I have very good medical insurance that will cover the majority of the surgery, etc. I would just like to minimize the out of pocket expenses. My best friend did something similar when she was pregnant to cover her maternity leave so I know it's possible and definitely not insurance fraud. It's not available through my employer (I work for the state). I have a flexible spending account which will help and about a month of sick leave. I just want to make sure that I haven't missed anything that might help. Look, I'm not trying to take advantage of anything or screw any policy holders out of money. I certainly didn't mean to incite such anger. I'm just wondering if there might be a help meet out there. It's a perfectly logical, legitimate question. I asked for help, not to be attacked. Geez.
Self-Employed? Does anyone realize that can deduct 100% of all medical expenses using line 14 on a Schedule C? If you are self-employed and use a Schedule C, then you may ADD up ALL you medical expenses (chiropractic , dentist , optometry , health insurance premiums, any indemnity plans (AFLAC, Family Heritage, etc. premiums), your co-pays, deductibles, prescriptions drugs, and over the counter if you put the date and what it was specifically used for. EXAMPLE. Say you have 4000/yr in premiums, your deductible was 7500, your co-pays were 20 per time. Your prescriptions were 750 and 175 in overthecounter meds. SO 4000 + 7500 + 200 in co-pays + 925 in prescription and overthecounter meds + 1800 in AFLAC + 20,000 dental bill + 600 in chiropractic bills = 35,025 ou now take what sales % tx bracket you're in + your state taxes % if any + 15.3% of SS taxes you owe since you're self employed. Say you live in AR 15% + 7.5% +15.3% = 37.8% x 35,025 = 13,239.45 IN TAX WRITE OFFS..If you use Schedule F - line 17 It's called an Association 105, it's legal, by the IRS since the 50's - ask your CPA
does aflac consider aggressive fibromatosis cancer? I have recently been diagnosed with aggressive fibromarosis, which the medical community seem to be split on whether it's cancer or not. It causes tumors, aggressively attacks tissues and recurs in 70% of cases (cancer like). The treatment is also the same as if it were cancer. The thing that makes it not cancer is that it doesn't metastasize (spread to other parts of the body.) I have a cancer policy with Aflac that pays out a lump sum if I get an "approved" cancer diagnosis, This would help my family greatly, for obvious reasons. Medical bills are steep, and I can't work at the moment. Does anyone else have any experience with this particular disease? Did your insurance (disability, health, whatever kind) consider it cancer or not?
Short-term Disability Benefits for Pregnancy in New York State? I live and work in the state of New York and I am aware that as a NYS resident that I am eligible for short-term disability pay when I leave work to have my baby. What I can't find out is this, I want to take my leave from work at 37 weeks. When am I actually eligible to apply for short-term disability benefits? When I leave work or when the baby is actually born? And does leaving work early affect my eligibility? My pregnancy has been completely healthy. There is no medical reason to leave at 37 week except that I would like the time to rest and prepare for the baby. I also have supplemental std insurance through AFLAC. New York State views pregnancy as a short-term disability. I know this already. My question is specifically about when a pregnant woman becomes eligable. I have read in other answers that there is an allowance of 4 week prior to birth and 6 weeks after birth. Does anyone know if this information is correct?
